I'm going to own a 686 in the near future. I currently own a 629 Mountain gun. Both 4" barrels. My question is, will they fit in the same holster. I've got three for the 629 that I like a lot and would like to use them for double duty.

I guess that it depends a lot on the holster....I have an N frame size holster with retention strap that will carry a 681, but it is a little snug down at the end of the barrel (as the 686, 681, 586, 581 series as full lug and my N frames are not). Try it out, it may work, if not, another holster is not too big of a burden to bear, you already spent the $$$ for the gun, why worry?

Keep in mind the full length lugged barrel of the 686. It normally won't fit in holsters made for non-lugged barrels. Often a colt Python holster works well with a 686.
