Quick question

I've posted some stuff and discussed iwb concealed carry with you guys, and a bunch of you guys recommend good leather holster. I found one at theholsterstore.com.

I had an uncle Mike's fabric holster that I liked, only the belt clip was flimsy and plastic. The gun fit fine, rode comfortable, and drew ok. It was just too cheap of a holster.

The new leather one is much more rugged and thick, with a sturdy metal belt clip. The gun is secure, but it's too tight on the gun. When I draw the gun it tries to bring my pants with it.

Does thick sturdy leather wear in and loosen up?

If you're interested in all the details, the writing on the holster reads "the holster store, maker, six cloud Fla" and the gun is a ruger Sr40c.

Do a search on here. I believe they said to put waxed paper on gun and holster it for a day or two. This will loosen up the holster a little.

I believe one of our resident holster makers advised putting your pistol in a plastic bag (Ziploc) and then re-holstering it. Done off and on for awhile, it will loosen the holster.

Hopefully, Ray or Lefty will chime in and correct my description.

I use plastic cling wrap. I'll wrap the gun, holster it, wiggle it around, add more wrap, repeat. I usually let it sit in there for a few days, adding more wrap until the holster has been stretched to the point that I like.

The straight answer is yes, it will wear in as you use it. Just put the gun in a plastic bag and put it back in the holster over night. This will open it a little. Then, if you practice your presentation every day like you should, it will get much better as time goes by.

When we carried revolvers on the job, we had a way to form a new holster to the gun and it really worked. Oil or grease the gun very heavily(after removing the grips) and put it in a sealed plastic bag. Put that bag in another bag and seal that one too. Put it in the holster very tightly and put some grease on any metal snaps on the holster. Now drop it a sink or bucket of water. Let that leather soak for a couple of hours to soften up, then put the holster where it can air dry, like on a picnic table. As it dries the leather will take the shape of the gun. When I was on our mounted unit, we did the same thing with our riding boots. Soak them in water, then put on thick socks, put your feet in plastic bags, put the boots on and wear until dry. It sounds nuts, but it worked. I just want to say something about carrying your gun like in the picture. STOP IT. That's crazy! And it can't be very comfortable. That's where the gangbangers keep theirs except they don't use holsters. Try it on your hip just behind the belt loop. Have a nice day.

Most holster makers tell you to put the gun in a plastic bag and then reholster it. I've never had to do that with any of the Lobo Gun Leather holsters I have, but Ray includes an instruction sheet saying this.

I also don't see how anyone can carry a gun in the front of their pants. How do you sit down?

I like mine at the 3:30 position because I am up and down all day long.

That Ruger looks a bit too large for comfortable A-IWB carry, at least for me, but that's how I carry my 2" j-frames. Not uncomfortable at all, and very handy for laying a hand on the gun when you need to-- sitting, standing, in the car, whatever.

I would call mine ok. It's not bad on me for iwb carry, it's a whole lot better than the 1911 I attempted to carry, and the only other gun I've attempted was a ruger lc380. I just didn't like the ruger lc380 but a man traded me the Sr40c for the lc380 straight up. I'll call it an upgrade.

I've looked at those j frames, I like them, a lot of you s&w guys swear by them, I compared the j frame with the exposed hammer to rugers lcr, and Taurus whatever they call their pocket revolver. and I'll say I'm going to get a j frame before summer 2014.

It's leather and it will break in to fit regardless of what you do or don't do. Give it a little time. I have the same holster, and it loosens up nicely.

For me the best answer for a tight holster is a product called KG 9
4 oz cost about $10 but it is enought for 3 lifetimes. Just a little on
your finger and rub inside the holster. Unbelievable how slick this stuff
is. Anyone else try this?
