Anybody can quit if I did. I have the will power of a sailor on shore leave, but I did it. If you average at $5.00 per pack, I have saved $93,000. I want to buy some more Smiths. However, I probably spent the money somewhere else or hopefully saved some.

YEA, pink lungs, congrats on kicking that nasty habit.
My dad smoked 30 plus years. Quit at age 50. Diagnosed with lung cancer two years later. Partial lung removal, and radiation treatment off and on for 13 years. Lots of pain and agony till esophageal cancer at age 66 killed him. I just turned 70 and often think that had I smoked, I might be dead by now or at best in poor health.
I never smoked so it's incredibly hard for me to understand why anyone would smoke or why they won't quit.

I smoked from my teens until I was 59.

As a teen, it was the cool thing to do. It's what guys we looked up to did. It was also forbidden for kids, in schools and in most homes, so naturally we were all for it.

Kinda rough in the beginning, inhaling tobacco smoke, but one soon gets used to it, and it then becomes soothing, even relieving in times of stress.

Pretty soon one is addicted to it. It is hard to quit. When one tries, the craving for nicotine is quite strong. While there are exceptions, most of us who have quit — going on 12 years now — tried to quit many times before succeeding.

It is great to succeed at quitting though. It brings a feeing of accomplishment as well as better health and well being. (Plus more gun money!)

One of the great mysteries of life is why a person would ever start the habit of smoking, or chawing, or rubbing. Think of the money spent on smoking by one guy, in years time. That and booze expenses is the reason there aren't more millionaires. If we outlawed tobacco, alcohol and females the world would be full of millionaires.
