I'm watching Rooster Cogburn tonight, for maybe the 10th time. The Duke was so cool. Twice he uses the term "Lustrum". It means 5 years. I'm looking forward to using that one in conversation.
People will be so impressed.:D

If you haven't yet done so I recommend reading the novel "True Grit", on which the screenplay was based. It is readily apparent that every effort was made to follow the basic dialogue created by the author. Very enjoyable read.

My favorite John Wayne line: "Life is tough. It's tougher is you're stupid". Can't remember which flick that comes from, but I have used it with my kids and grandkids for years.

One of his I’ve borrowed form the movie McLintock: “Don’t say it’s a fine morning or I’ll shoot ya’.”

The Lovely Missus P&R Fan has a Bachelors degree in Psychology. (I'm her long term case study).:D I don't have a college degree. Figured after owning a business for 29 years I don't need one. Anyway, for a blonde she's pretty smart. I remarked to her we have been married for over 5 Lustrum. Had no idea what I was talkin' about.
I feel like such an intellectual.

It's attributed to Wayne's character in "Sands of Iwo Jima".

The similar "This life's HARD man, but it's HARDER if you're stupid! ", came from one of my favorite books and movies. "The Friends of Eddie Coyle".

I find myself using some of his quotes and sayings.

..."Tighter than Dicks hatband"...

"A cow's nothin' but a lot of trouble tied up in a leather bag."

In Red River, when young Matt says "the cows are gonna get away", he answers, "Wherever they go, they'll be on my land".
It would be nice to be able to say that!

She's got you right where she wants you.

I think my favorite John Wayne movie was The Shootist.

"I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them."
