Looks like FMG are down at least 4 writers in the last 6 months.

I also met him at Boise several years ago. His hands looked like claws from shooting the big guns. He was a good speaker and interesting to talk to. I have enjoyed his articles over the years.

So sad news to hear of his passing. John Taffin was a legend of a man that I like most looked up to for most of my adult life. A brilliant man in the firearms world with an unending supply of knowledge.
Godspeed and RIP John with sincere condolences to his wife and family.

I was fortunate to have made Mr. Taffin's acquaintance. I've had lunch with him and had been over to his house. Diamond Dot was so nice and such a gracious hostess. John certainly made an impact in the Gun World. Vaya con Dios.

When I was younger, I read Skeeter in the magazines and couldn't wait to get the next copy. Then I started reading Mike Venturino and John Taffin. I got extended subscriptions to both FMG publications that they wrote in. Now, they're all gone and I'm not far behind. The FMG Podcast said they had a lot of John's articles yet to publish. So for a little while longer we'll all get to read John's insightful and witty words. As an aside, I often wondered why Shooting Times never published a compilation book of Skeeter's articles, he was a brilliant writer, but in a recent magazine the editors said they never had and never would. It's a shame.

I've read where John was a devote Christian and you could see it in occasional words in his articles. I'm praying for you John and may your loved ones take rest in His Peace and Mercy.

Skeeter, Taffin, Venturino--the stuff that good gun rags were made of.

There are several books that contain Skeeter's stories and articles-Hoglegs, Hipshots and Jalapenos; Good Friends, Good Guns, Good Whiskey & I Remember Skeeter, written by his wife. All are pricey these days. I'm glad I bought mine at retail, back in the day.

John was a hater of S&W original target wood grips. And stated so in may of his articles and books......I sent him a letter stating I would pay shipping on all those awful grips if he would send them to me......He never responded back.........Some of that may have convinced S&W to go to cheap rubber.

I have a friend that hates any wood grip made. He has a dresser drawer and several storage tub filled with wood grips. I count my blessings as if I need or want a grip, he gives them to me. Cut from the same cloth as Mr. Taffin.

Can't believe I missed this. I only learned of his passing today.

He was truly one of the greats
