Greetings in Freedom,

Hypocrisy knows no bounds in the City of Racine.

On Feb. 20th an ordinance banning concealed carry in City Buildings was approved in committee by an 8-2 vote. This past Tuesday on a unanimous 13-0 vote, Racine Alderman approved an amendment to the ordiance that would EXEMPT elected officials from the ban. How nice it must be to be a member of the ruling class. Passing laws that apply to everyone else.
Aldermen want to exempt elected officials from City Hall weapons ban)

The ordinance will go to the full council for a vote on April 3rd. Wisconsin Carry members as well as the general public will be showing up in numbers to pack the meeting.

We encourage all Racine area citizens to attend the meeting and let the City Council know that they are not a privileged ruling class and they should have to abide the laws they pass for everyone else.

Details:
Wednesday April 3rd
7pm
City Hall Rm. 205
730 Washington Avenue
Racine, WI 53403

"Gun Free Zones" create opportunities for lunatic shooters to carry out suicidal rampages on defenseless citizens. The law-abiding respect the rules and leave their legally carried guns in the car or at home, and deranged individuals ignore silly "no guns" signs to inflict mass casualties where no one can stop them.

In the above linked article, Racine Alderman Greg Helding demonstrates the selfish perspective of all too many elected officials: "We are the one (group of people affected by the ban) who publicly announce ahead of time when and where we will be in a completely unguarded and publicly accessible place," he said. -- Clearly Alderman Helding recognizes the silly "no guns" signs on the doors will not stop a lunatic with a gun...
It would be nice if Alderman Helding recognized that BECAUSE OF HIS PROPOSED BAN every single person that steps in a City of Racine building will be prevented from protecting themselves. We hope that Alderman Helding thinks of someone besides himself when it comes to personal protection. We hope that Alderman Helding considers that if a woman who has a restraining order against a stalker decides to enter the Racine Library, or any city building, her stalker knows that she will be unable to protect herself while she is in, or leaving the library because of the concealed carry ban that Alderman Helding placed on her, but thought to exempt himself from.
If you live in the Racine area, please plan to attend the above meeting. Link to facebook event here: Racine City Council Meeting | Facebook
If you do not live in the Racine area, but would like to help Alderman Helding understand his selfish perspective:

Several years ago the city council banned concealed carry on public transportation. The Texas Attorney General notified them that if they pursued this matter the state would discontinue any funding that they received. Maybe your attorney general might have something to say about this.

How do we continue to let these clowns write and pass these illegal ordinances? This nonsense of asking forgiveness rather than permission on the part of elected people has got to stop.

George Orwell's Animal Farm to a tee.

Some are more equal than others.

What I am thinking would get me banned for sure. Maybe even arrested.

The WI preemption issue should be brought to the city's attention. I doubt if many on the council will vote to spend money to take on the State of WI in court over the issue. Publicize it in the local media and news outlets. See if anyone else will bring it to the council's attention. We have had smaller cities try writing laws in deference to the State of GA. They all lost.

If WI has a carry-organization, get them involved, too.

for decades it was illegal to OWN a handgun in Chicago, EXCEPT those that were in government positions......

Remember: this is a proposal to ban concealed carry in CITY BUILDINGS, not the village itself.

The City Government probably has the authority to set policy on property and buildings they "own", much like Amtrak can say "no shirt , no shoes, no service" at their train stations.

I have family in Lake County IL, and that corner of the state is so blue state liberal nothing less then litigation is going to deter these morons.People protested and made their voices heard in Colorado too, and the Democrats there didn't give a f**k.

How dare you miserable peons presume to critisize your betters?! Just be silent and pay your taxes!

Here in Virginia, I believe we have a law that prohibits any other lesser government body (county, city, locality) from imposing or passing laws that would impose sanctions on the rights granted by a state issued conceal carry. Not sure if the same applies to open carry but I think it does.

That's what preemption means. ;)

Two points I would like to mention that don't get into the weeds as far as politics.

First, if you assume the law is effective then there is absolutely no need for councilmen to be armed or even to have armed security present.

If you assume that one or more councilmen are armed (because of this exemption) then citizens who attend unarmed are at risk of being attacked by councilmen. In other words, it is not safe to attend council meetings.

Wisconsin has preemption. I doubt the ordinance will survive
I doubt it also.

It wasn't all that long ago that the AG had to rough up either the city of Madison or their Police force for harassing people who were legally carrying openly.
