Radio silence.

After a 7 day hospital stay and 5 days at home I am well on my way to recovery. My pain is now very manageable and I have slept most of the last 3 days. My appetite is coming back and my taste buds are regenerating.

This morning I was able to dress myself, grab my trusty walker, visit the loo and amble out to my happy place on the veranda unaided.

Life is most wonderful right now and I am blessed to have started yet another one.

My ribbon collection grows. Set 'em up and I'll knock 'em down.

Again, my most humble thanks to all who supported me and mine.

You are most welcome, my friend. I hope you don't mind if we keep it up.

...I do kind of wonder what Mr Whipple and the charmin have to do with surgery?
From a previous thread on RustyT's situation, post #458 by wood714:

"The Whipple procedure involves removing the head of the pancreas, a portion of the small intestine (duodenum), the gallbladder, and part of the bile duct, according to the American Cancer Society. It's a challenging operation because it requires careful manipulation and reconnection of multiple organs."
Gack

My father had the Whipple done and lived 5-1/2 years afterwards and just got an all clear of cancer report when his heart stopped while having a pacemaker installed.
I sincerely hope all goes well for you and you enjoy many many years here on the forum.
Wouldn't be the same without you.

Glad you made it!
Had that procedure May 8, 2023 (VE Day) for IPMN, so pre cancerous in my case.
Any help or information I can provide, please feel free to DM me.
In my case, I was able to stop taking the digestive enzymes, so that's a good deal. Not back to "normal", but better than it might have been.

I returned from a long day at the mother ship completing a battery of post op tests and a consult.
While I am weak and still reliant on my walker and wheelchair I am healing nicely and ahead of the curve.

What I didn't expect to hear is that they found 4 malignant stage IV lymph nodes nestled nearby.
After approximately 6 weeks to regain some of my strength I will face another chemo regimen.
Disappointing? Yes.
Deal breaker? No!
This is just a speed bump and I refuse to knuckle under.
As expected Ruthie was initially jolted by this but we both are resolved to see this through.

Tis but a scratch.

I hated hearing this earlier when we talked.

Prayers will continue as long as you're on this side of the dirt bro! From your frame of mind, I'm thinking that will be a long time.

Well, hell. Never an easy day, is there? Looks like the party will have to wait a bit longer. Good thing the haggis is frozen. :)
You and Ruthie stay strong, my friend. Still pulling for you with everything I got.

Prayers continue for you sir, along with your family and the medical team that cares for you... I know it can be a load, but you can handle this and will beat this, again... besides, all the ribbons will go great in your hair when this is over. 🎀

I will be under blackout conditions soon as at 0400 I will be heading downtown to the mother ship for my Whipple surgery scheduled for 0730 followed by ICU, a painful hospital stay and then a lengthy recovery at home.

They stopped all treatment 6 weeks ago as my numbers are where they need to be and my tumor has shrunken to where it is now far enough away from the artery that this can be done roboticaly which is far less invasive. I won't be ingesting nutrients for several days so my rearranged innards can begin to knit together. The surgeon said this is because the pancreas is thin skinned and to imagine putting sutures into a stick of butter.

I have long anticipated this surgery as it inches me closer to the brass ring which is to gain a large measure of wholeness and a few more years with my wonderful family in our forever home. I am no stranger to pain and have a high threshold for it and I will gladly endure it to regain a large degree of normalcy.

Every invasive procedure and surgery I have experienced I was blanketed by His grace and felt no worry or anxiety and such is the case now.

Ruthie will keep in contact with Fred (old bear), John (hsguy) and Kevin (wood714) with updates.

When the time comes that I feel lucid enough I will re-engage with my magic glass portal.

Until then I'll see ya when I see ya.
My prayers for your successful surgery and speedy recovery Rusty! 🙏

Looking good, Rusty. May past impediments continue to fall away behind you and any new challenges collapse before you as you go. Powerful forces are on your side, and many of those are the ones on this forum.
