Randall knife help

My buddy came across this knife and we are both curious as to what it is. I am very new to Randall's and only own 2 and would like to make this my 3rd. We want to be fare to each other on a price. He was told the knife was brought back from over seas after the war. Thank you for any information you can share.

Looks like a model 14 “Attack” to me. I don’t know when they started making that model, but the sheath appears to be a riveted Johnson rough back. I believe they made sheaths for Randall from the early 60’s through the late 80’s.

Edit: I had to look it up, but the Bear SP-13 stone is correct for knives made in the late 60’s - early 70’s. It’s Vietnam era, but it looks too nice to have seen much use in theater.

I can't help much with value but I can tell you that it's a model 14 Attack with 7.5" Carbon steel blade (not stainless). Brass hilt, Black Micarta finger grooves handle with unlined wrist thong hole. Newer made Randall knives with thong hole are lined with metal. I think they stopped the riveted sheaths around 1975 and I think they also started lining thong holes early to mid 70s too. So my guess is at least older than 1975.

Value wise, I’d guess it’s worth round $750 +/-.

Same as most Randalls,you can get stainless or non stainless. My first Model 14 is non stainless

Looks like you have an older sheath with rivets. Randall collectors go nuts for rivets . Call Nordic Knives,ask for Dave Harvey. A new 14 can be had for 600. If yours is from the 1960s,possibly a thousand more

Without a close view, the riveted sheath, white stone, an the unlined thong hole I'd say its closer to $1000. IMO

Re: All 14s are stainless.

My M14 developed a thin coating of rust EVERY DAY in the Colombian jungle! Cleaned it off daily and applied the only oil we had, M2 machine gun lube, whatever that was. It still rusted. Got it home and it's no worse for wear, no pitting and nice and bright.

Sooooo. maybe some are not stainless. Dunno.

I would say mid to late 60's. Not all stainless Randalls had an S. I have one marked "Stainless" across the ricasso.
Not all 14's were stainless.
A good number of Randalls from that time period had contract blanks made by Soligen. I have one.
Some fo the rough back sheaths are two pieces of leather (split rough back) and some are solid as your appears to be.

I would say that is a solid $1000-$1200 knife.

That is a model 14 made in the late 60's . It has an unlined thong hole and rounded brass hilt. Carbon steel blade & Riveted Johnson roughback sheath and correct white Bear stone used in the late 60's. It is a $1500.00-$2000 knife ALL DAY LONG ! The stone alone will bring $250 and the riveted sheath $500-$750. It is a Viet Nam era knife although I doubt it seen the jungle.

If I remember correctly from my machining days, 400 series stainless steel will rust. It is also heat treatable. Most of the firearms that are made of stainless is 400 series. 300 series is not heat treatable.
