I got this Randall Knife from Old Bear, it’s a boot knife, but it goes pretty good with my barbecue belt.

That's a time-honored shape. Ever see the daggers from King Tut's tomb? The one with an iron blade looks VERY like a Model 2 Randall.

The Model 2 is not the most practical blade shape — tho perfect for its designed purpose — but is, undeniably, flat out, wicked cool.

Everyone should have at least one.

I was at lunch with a couple of buddies that retired from the Cape also the other day . The subject of Randalls came up . Did you know he came up with an astronauts survival knife ? There's a 5-6 year waitting list last time I heard . There's a place : knivesshipfree.com that has some on hand if you just can't wait . He's right here in Orlando , I remember when you could walk in and buy one .

Buxton knives sells their stock on hand at no mark up. They’ve been good to me. I have one of the astronaut knives. It’s a nice knife. The handle is a little small. I ordered a number 1 with the number 2 handle. It should be ready any day now. In the mean time I found these to good to pass up. From Buxton. The astronaut knife I got below cost off eBay. But I don’t have a picture I’ll post one later.

Here is the Astronaut knife. Designed by astronaut Gordon Cooper. The same one from the Discovery channel show. Coopers treasure. This model is the only Randall available with a stainless guard.

Surely one reason there are not many Randalls in Argentina is that Randall states on their website that they will not ship to South America because in their experience they have not been successful in having their shipped knives delivered to their customers in South America.

I had two given to me by a friend who has now passed. One is a Mod. 25 just like the one above in RrRBill's post, but do not know the model of the other one. This man had over 50 Randall's. I also have one coming back to me that I purchased for my brother who had a very extensive custom knife collection.

As far as I know, Randall never made any Model 17s like this but it feels better to me than the small shop handle. I made a Model 14 finger grip handle for another Model 17 years ago and traded it to the founder of the Randall Knife Society (Rhett).

I ordered a bunch back in the day. so now I am getting them pretty regularly. The Bowies are not all that practical for carry. But they are cool nonetheless.

The Smithsonian Bowie weighs almost three lb. And the Raymond Thorpe is almost like a short sword.

I've owned several Randall's over the years, but I've sold or traded off all but 5. I currently have 2 hunting knives and 3 bowie knives. As Charlie Foxtrott mentioned above, the Bowie's aren't very practical for carrying, but they are cool. About all i use the Bowie's for is chopping food.

I am a big Randall fan. I grew up around them, as my dad is a collector. He used to help sell them at the Houston gun show for dealer Tom Clinton. Tom unfortunately has passed, but his son Gary is still at it. I don't have near the collection that my dad has, but I've managed to pick up a few here and there.

I recently picked up a 2-7 with an ivorite handle, and it is a fantastic if somewhat impractical knife.

Is the white handled one with the nickel Triple Lock a Model 14 with Cut Down Tang? Beautiful and useful knife. Alas, most Randall handles are a little short for my hand in the grasp recommended by Applegate and Fairbairn.

After digging my Astro out of the safe for the pictures. I’ve been wearing it since. Wore it all day yesterday in the rain. It’s a nice knife. Just the right size for easy carrying without getting caught on stuff. The handle is small but useable, and it’s small size makes it easier to carry.

I used it for glamorous stuff like cutting open the plastic bags for the hot dogs. Cutting the hot dogs apart. Prying the frozen hamburger patties apart. Lifting the grill rack to add charcoal. Just general survival stuff it was designed for. Lol.

The one in the bottom photo with the 5" nickel Triple Lock is in fact a 14 CDT with the currently offered shop supplied ivory micarta as the handle material. In the past, I have had a couple of standard 14s and one 15 with a border patrol handle. I like the heavier tang, but none of the handle options fit me well. I really didn't like the border patrol handle, as it felt like I was squeezing an egg. I have relatively large hands, and the standard finger grip handle was hit or miss as to whether or not they fit my fingers, so I found the CDT to be the most comfortable (and visually appealing) choice.

The knife in the top photo with the 6.5" blued Triple Lock is a 12-9 Bowie with a 14 grind. It's not nearly as practical as the 14 due its size, but I think the 14 grind makes for the perfect modern Bowie knife.
