The knives came out for air and light today, so I took their picture.

I grew up with the '50's and early '60's westerns on TV, usually were half hour shows. Brief commercials. Of course, Gun Smoke, Richard Boone, the Big Valley, and really enjoyed Josh Randall. I had a nice 45 Colt, even had a losing gate, and I made up some dummy 38 spa bullets from things I found. Friends like the Fanner Fifty, and some of us had had Paladins belt b buckle derringer. It was a fun time to be a kid. I have a number of books about McQueen, who was cool enough to marry Ali McGraw. I think I read that the cartridges in the belt loops of his rig were 45-70's to look more impressive.

Me, finally got my reloading room set up since our move and made up about 50 357 mag rounds, with 158g bullerts, and taking them to shoot for the first time in my new Henry 1892 lever rifle later today, at the ranges at the rifle club here near Columbia, SC. Plus sight in my 4 mag Ruger carbine, after mounting a 4X scope on it.

I remember back in I think '83 when Steve McQueen died of mesothelioma from inhaling asbestos from his race cars' break pad dust. I know another racer from that era who died from the same exposure.

Oh, here is my only Randall. SF VET

I'm up to four now. On the hunt for a model 2 though.

I bought my first one, a model 14, when I was 20 years old in 1989. I had just gotten my first real job at Pan Am up in NY at JFK. Most kids, back in the day, when they first got some real money in their pocket, usually bought high end stereo components or a nice car. Not me, I went out and bought a Randall model 14 knife. I found a gun shop out on Long Island that had a couple in the gun case for sale. I wanted a 15 but they talked me into the 14. I could have gotten a 7" model 1 with stacked leather, but I'm glad I didn't. Years later, a big collector told me stay away from leather, it never stays nice.

I dug out the original receipt, yes I'm weird that way. I paid $313.26. I plugged that into an inflation calculator and that comes to 752.86. That was a lot of money then, and it's a lot of money now.

This is the only handy pic I could find of the 14, I just took the one of the receipt.

I ordered the model 14 from Randall when I was in my 30's and was used to clean a couple of deer before being retired. It's none the worse for it I think. I stopped carrying it not so much out of concern for wearing or damaging it as much as the probability of losing it. I've lost knives, firearms magazines, and other stuff in the swamp many times. The model 1 came much later and hasn't been out in the woods nearly as much.

Bought my first Randall back in '71, I think. It was the Model 14 and served me well whilst serving with Uncle. It was really too big for my tastes and everyday usage and my nephew currently serving in the Army carries it now.
I have a well-used Model 11 that's been with me since '78 or '79 and recently added a Model 28 from AG's shop in Rogers, AR. I used both knives when processing the deer on my recent annual Texas hunt.
There's just something about a Randall knife, they're recognized world-wide, and I really enjoy using mine!

Those are great looking Randall knives and collections. We used to have four here, but three have been passed on within the family to our niece and two nephews. Keeping it a family tradition and yes, all get and have been used for the purpose made.

Randalls and Smith and Wesson revolvers have a lot in common. There are so many different models, finishes, and lengths it's hard to collect one of each no matter how hard I try.

Does the paracord that comes with a Randall Model C sheath come already cut into 3 pieces from Randall, or does it just come in a single longer piece?
