Went to the my old agency's range today. My primary intent was to get in some practice with my G19 MOS with red dot, but I brought along some other guns that needed attention.
I started with my recently acquired 640 that I hadn't put on paper although I did try it out previously on a couple of water filled Gatorade bottles. I shot some old mild cast lead 38 WCs and some old CCI aluminum Blazer 158g FMJ +Ps. The Blazers were hotter than I remembered but were not easy extractors. I also shot a few factory 130g FMJ 38s but I forget what brand. Everything shot to pretty much POA with a little variation in height but not enough to worry about. I deemed it good to go.
I then shot my 4" 686 some. Mostly the cast lead 38 WCs but I also finished off the Blazers. It's good to go.
Next my Glock model 19. I had just put on some cowitness sights to go with it's red dot. I had to adjust the iron sights as they were too far to the left. Next I had to adjust the Red Dot. All good.
Now my G40 MOS with red dot. Same irons and red dot as the G19. I adjusted it's sights. Good to go. I never can find much of my 10mm brass.
Finally I get to my Smith 69 snubbie. I qualified with it recently during which the web of my right hand between thumb and forefinger ripped. I wanted to find a way to adjust my grip so my hand didn't get destroyed. I used the same ammo I'd used during qualification, Zero 240g jacketed flat soft point over 24.2 H110. Fairly stout out of that little gun. The recoil doesn't hurt or bother me other than tearing up the web of my hand. I carried a 6" 629 with magnums on duty for many years. With the snubbie I found it helped to hold lower on the grip (Hogue Bantam Boot Grips) but after 15 rounds my freshly healed scar was starting to get pink so I quit. I need to grow a callus or wear tape or a band-aid before a rapid fire qualification next time.
All that took longer than anticipated and I never did get to do any serious practice with the G19. It was hotter than Hades. I again confirmed that I'm still more comfortable with a wheel gun. That's probably a permanent condition.
Initially I had problems with my mind getting confused with both irons and a red dot but I seem to be getting over that. I've discovered that when I get to the 15 and more so at the 25yrd line the bobbing red dot is more disconcerting than wiggling iron sights. I've discovered that getting old doesn't help my marksmanship. Sight picture and trigger control can only do so much when your hands aren't so steady any more. Getting old s****. I still don't have any problem qualifying. Maybe I should try and see if some sort of exercises can delay the inevitable.
No I don't have target pictures. I just kept using and marking the same silhouette target and marking holes as I used the different printed numbers as target areas. It was pretty shot up by the end.
Edit to add: I thought I posted this early morning post in the lounge but I was falling asleep so who knows.
