Range Master Likes my M&P

During qualifications at the Police Academy the Range Master asked me and a fellow officer if he could shoot one of our M&P 40's. Everyone else was using Glocks, including the Range Master. He had picked up my M&P during one classroom setting and went into the adjoining room and I could hear him and another firearms instructor talking about how well the M&P fit their hand.

Needless to say the Instructors all gathered around the Range Master while he fired the M&P. Then they all wanted to shoot it. I think we converted some firearm instructors that day. In fact since then two of the firearms instructors have ask what I paid for the M&P. Think they might be saving up? I do.

Best hand gun I have ever owned and I trust it to work every time during patrol.

I just picket up a 9c manuf. in '06. The previous owner did a trigger job reducing the pull to about <5 lbs. It included 6 factory mags, four backstraps and looks to be in 98% condition. On the range it was amazing, best shooting semi I ever handled and this comes from someone who has owned a Glock M23 for years. I paid $500 to include night sights, extra mags and upgraded backstrap. I could not be happier.

I have an M&P 9 & 40 full size and perfer them over the Glock 19 & 23. They fit my hand much better. The Tampa PD just converted to the M&P 40 from the Glock 22.

Small world. My dogs used to get excited when they would see me grab the .45 Commander off the top of the frig. It's just like picking up keys, to them, but I always told the kids that dogs naturally like guns.

I'd bet your instructor will have an M&P before too long. I know a lot of folks who considered the Glock just fine and never even considered how awkward and uncomfortable the grip was - until they handled an M&P.

I know the M&P has converted me. I like it better than the glocks I have owned. I do still have a g 30 sf that I like however I have thought about trading it on another M&P.

Not all firearms instructors are barrel suckers. Some, though decent instructors, are not all that knowledgeable or interested in the diversity of the firearms out there. Recently, one who has ambitions of being a future instructor tried to tell me that the rifle bullets inside a 100-count of .25 cal boat tail HPs (reloading components) were the new caseless .25 auto round because a dumb crook had loaded them in a Raven.

In my area, the Glock is the number one handgun in a cop's holster and some of the area departments still have a bad taste in their mouths over some S&W semis from past years that didn't work as advertised. That, of course, was quite a while back when S&W was still a wholly owned subcomponent of a foreign socialist machine. When running a range and some task force personnel from other agencies are shooting with firearms that I'm not familar with, I usually try to get a few rounds off to familarize myself with the system. I admit that was how I got turned onto the M&P after trying out a .40. I was a die hard Glocker and it took me a little while to admit that the M&P was a pretty decent-shooting piece. Now, I really WANT them to catch on. The Glock is pretty well established due to a well earned track record. The M&P may not knock them off the mountain any time soon, but is giving them some competetion to think about.

I fit squarely into that category. I still like the reliability of my two Glocks, but the M&P has become my #1 range (IDPA) gun over my G17. I'm saving up for an M&P9C to replace my G26.
