I know it varies by ammo, but what range (yards) can I expect the m&p 15 .22 to go? 100yards? 200y? And how accurate? newbie question!!!

If you are a good shot and test to see what ammo is accurate in your particular rifle, 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards should be no problem from a solid rest.

There are a few folks that like to shoot 22LR out to a couple of hundred yards. The round is at its best inside 100 yards.

I've heard people shooting 60 yards at the most. Some sight in at about 40 or so.

I can easily hit clay pigeons at about 125 yards with a solid rest and my prostaff 3-9. I think it all just depends on your experience behind the rifle.

I've sighted my [cheap Chinese] scope at 50 yards and regularly shoot paper at 100 yards and rocks on the berm at a few yards beyond that with fantastic accuracy and I'm not a particularly skilled shooter (YET!)

The rifle is as accurate as the shooter, but generally accepted gospel is that a .22 is only truly accurate to 125 yards at the very most. Sure, there are folks that appear to be able to hit targets at much greater ranges (if youtube videos are to be believed), but realistically - and assuming the shooter is reasonably proficient, any .22 rifle is limited by the cartidge and weather.

I can reliably shoot out to about 100 yards, but all my .22's are sighted in at 50.

With my 3-9x scope on a bench rest at 50 yards, I can shoot 5-round groups of 1" diameter. Consistently. At 100 yards, mostly 2" groups, but I'm working on that! :D

i have a private range...and my buddies and myself shoot 200yds on a weekly basis. rear site all the way down to 6/3 and front site set down in the fsb a bit....line target up halfway on the pin and have at it. any of us can go 10/10 @ 200yds on a 16" steel plate...and usually the same for the 10" plate. we're usually standing, but if we go to the bench it's simple to go 10/10.

i also tried mine out with one of my APT's...and was grouping around 1" @ 100yds with federal bulk ammo. I usually just use a vortex SPARC though

A .22 LR can travel over one mile if fired with the barrel elevated about 30 degrees. Therefore, if you are shooting up in the air with it, allow 1 1/2 miles safety zone for the bullet to fall.

Naturally, your chance of intentionally hitting anything smaller than a building at that distance with a .22 is nil.
