Finally got to the range with the 4513TSW. Between sorting out perceived issues and finding reasonably priced 45 ammo it took some time.
I brought along my 3913 for a side by side single stack comparison.
3913 was with WWB 115g and the 4513 got S&B 230g.
Never had the opportunity to fire a 45 so I wasn't sure what to expect. Was it going to be like my 66 no dash 357 magnum or more like a 9mm?
Warmed up with a couple of mags with the familiar 3913. Little rusty but not terrible, manage to keep it in a 6" circle at 7yds.
Time for the 4513! Loaded up, squared up let the first round go and ...
That's it? Shoot, the 3913 with 115g kicked worse!
Left and low of center, hmmm. The sights just don't stand out enough for old eyes! Gonna need to do something with that.
Again not terrible, but not gonna win a bullseye match. Keeping it in the same 6" circle.
It's got a click in the trigger on the take up in SA but not in DA.
Actually more accurate in DA than SA for me. Darn sights are just a blur with the dead Trijicons.
Six mags in and it's starting to feel a little better. Groups are tightening up and able to work the blurry sights a lil better.
This one is definitely a keeper!
Thanks again Guzzi for your help!

I know you will get that 4513 dialed in. They are nice handling and easy to shoot. AND a .45 acp.

If you're not absolutely liking it now you soon will. I'm glad your concerns about it were figured out.

I just had to spin your picture around, it was too nice not to. I've done the same before here but ONLY for .45's I think are worthy. :D

Nice shooting for the first time out.

Jim

Glad that 4513TSW is working out for you Heymatt! My experience shooting the 4513TSW and 39XX series guns mirrors yours.

My very favorite 45 carry gun. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

45 ACP recoil is not really as bad as many people believe it to be. I have always found that the 9x19mm has a snappy recoil, especially with light weight bullets, while the 45 ACP, at least with 230 grain bullets, has more of a rolling recoil impulse. The 9x19mm with 147 grain bullets changes its recoil impulse to more of a rolling feel.

Scored another 4513TSW mag off the big board this week. I must have caught just after it listed with a buy it now price that was reasonable.

LOL, try 45 thru a plastic gun and they kick a little more!

Heymatt, any chance you could measure something for me? I'd like to know how much they trimmed off the butt for that 6r mag to slide up flush like that. i.e. how deep the notch in the frame is.

I'll measure the depth of the TSW fitted base. That should correspond to the depth of the notch.

I know that many people think that eBay is a very bad place to shop. (Flea Bay etc.) Actually I've gotten all kinds of mags there for great prices including four as new 4513 pre-rail ones for $100.00+ shipped. He had a bunch and I mentioned it here. The rest were gone that morning and I got a demerit but it was worth it. ;)

Many times sellers don't know what they actually have and list those 4513TSW magazines in the CS45 section.

Unfortunately I did get a very nice complete, 9mm 3rd Gen S&W full size top end off eBay. Soon after I received it the ATF came down and seized THEIR property. That's the only bad experience I've had buying off of eBay.

Yes, the 6 round CS45 mags work in a pre rail 4513TSW. I have mistakenly picked up CS45 mags and used them, at the range, in my 4513TSW. And vice versa.

But when carrying, I ONLY use the factory OEM mag that goes with the pistol it was designed for. I am not sure the extra detents at the top of the CS45 mags (to keep the next round up from moving forward under recoil) would pose a problem in the 4513TSW - and the few times I used them they did not - but I would not want to discover that they can cause a malfunction, in the middle of an "unfortunate incident". Regards 18DAI

Edited to add: The S&W 3rd Gen 7 and 8 round mags also work in the pre rail 6-round 4513TSW. I have used them multiple times at the range, testing to make sure they did. Back when I still worked Investigations, I often carried either a 7 round or 8 round mag as a reload.
