RANGE-REPORT!! .455 HE UNALTERED, WITH INSPECTION-PICS - THE LETTER IS HERE!!

Here are the next ammo-tryouts.

Point of aim was always center. Except the first @25 Meters with Load#6. I hold the sight under the bullseye. The point of impact was close the the point of aim, so i changed to center. It look much better than the first series. The recoil was nice but not on the hard side. I see potential for the 300 grainer and the 311 grainer. The 230 grainer is not build for this gun.

All groups were made unsupported in standing position.

Mr. Jinks sent me the letter for my .455 HE 2nd. Maybe you like to know more from the guns history.

Swissman:

I would try to see if you can develop a load using only lead bullets and size them to .454 or .455 and even .456 inches to allow the bullet to seal the chambers and bore better to prevent the blow back you have seen. The jacketed rounds will wear that older steel barrel down much faster.

Very nice, interesting revolver Swissman. Very good thread on the subject.
That is very interesting to find that Remington Arms Ammunition Co. was the purchasing agent for the British Government.
I have it's younger brother #62427 which was shipped in 7-22-1916 to the Canadian Government. It's still all original and I was lucky enought to get a case of original ammo with mine.

Great thread with a fine test report about a cool old revolver. I'll be looking for a .455. Thanks Swissman!

That's nice! Just wear to give it character and make it interesting, yet in nice enough shape to still be pretty.

The groove diameter should be on the order of .457", so you will definitely get better accuracy with larger bullets. My gun has been fitted with a M1917 cylinder, but even that will accept .454" bullets, which are much more accurate than trying to shoot .45 ACP hardball through it.

Thanks for posting the S&W Factory Letter. This is the best thread in a long time. This thread would make an excellent article for a gun magazine.

Congratulations!

Swissman,
