The brand new Colt Gold Cup Trophy in .45 acp got 200 rounds today of Winchester and Remington 230 grain GI ball.

After sighting in the rear, it’s proved to be both accurate and reliable. Zero Failures. The dual recoil spring system makes the .45 feel like nothing!

Two of the short 7 round mags didn’t lock the slide back on the last round a few times. The two 8 round mags with the bumpers locked back the slide every time when empty.

No FTF, no FTE. Just smooth running like a sewing machine. Since I carry GI FMJ in .45 , this is going to be a great carry piece.

The target shown was at 8 yards.

Glad that your new Gold Cup is meeting your expectations. A weak magazine spring can cause a failure to lock the slide after the last round is fired. A poor contact between the tab on the slide stop and the magazine follower could also be the culprit.

There is nothing like a great looking and accurate 1911! I have had good luck with Chip McCormick and original 7 round Colt mags made by their provider.

My Gold Cup was acquired from an individual at a collector/antique gun show over 20 years ago. It is a series 70 and shoots great.

Congrats on your Gold Cup Trophy!

While Colt certainly doesn't make a whole lot these days, their new Gold Cups are super accurate, incredibly reliable, built beautifully and a terrific value that in my personal experience work correctly right out of the box! Enjoy!! :):D They also feed any properly done reloads which many high end 1911's won't!

Nice shooting and report. Colt has its ups-and-downs and so does its product, but in general they still build a terrific and affordable 1911 (and AR).

I note your Gold Cup sports the high cut and front strap checkering becoming more common in Colt's line-up now that they've got a dedicated machine for it. I think it's one of the best 1911 high cuts available these days, and the 25LPI checkering is excellent.

Enjoy. ;)

I agree. Their fit and finish also isn’t the best. Not compared to my Dan Wesson. But every Colt 1911 I’ve owned in the past 5 years (maybe 8 or so) has worked 100 percent.

I like the checkering and high cut. These grips are super checkered as well. The gun now just sticks to my entire hand. I’ve got pretty thickly callused hands, so the checkering never bothered me.
