Picked up my new M&P .40 FS at a gun show in May, finally got a chance to shoot it yesterday. Put a hundred rounds through it with no problem at all, no failures, no difficulties. I was surprised I had no trouble loading the two mags that came with it, I've heard about stiff springs when they are new. They did get slightly tight on the last round, but not much different than the first ones.

My impression is that it shoots slightly low and to the left (like an inch or two at 7 yards), but that may be my technique. I didn't do rapid fire, but I was able to reaquire the target and fire a second round fairly quickly with about the same accuracy. I do like this sight picture.

Any advice on how to sight this in to determine whether the sights are adjusted correctly? Or do I just keep shooting until I get better?

Use a bench rest, have someone else shoot it, or another trick that I've used with shooters who shoot low left. Stick out your pinky finger while firing. What this does is makes it more difficult for you to pull the wrist to the left when firing (try it with an empty pistol and you can feel what I mean). I wouldn't recommend this as a mode of grip, it's just a training tool. Have fun.

let me guess, right handed and right eye dominant? This is almost ALWAYS the case with newbie shooters or newbies to a new weapon system for right handed and right eye dominant shooters, low and left. Don't worry, you're normal. ;)

Actually, right-handed and left eye dominant. I tried some shots with both eyes open but it was difficult to focus. I shot better when I closed my left eye.

I'm a 1911 guy thin short light trigger and shot the same grouping as you when I got my first gen3 D/S action S&W.. I got a m&P22 after that shot the same.. For me it had to do with getting use too that wide trigger on both guns.. For some reason having the extra meat of my finger on the trigger caused me to pull the trigger a bit and that gave me a little low and to the left target shots.. Take your time know what you're doing wrong and things will improve.. If you have 2 or 3 snap caps have someone load you mag with them in it and you will see right away your sight picture when you just get a click and know what your doing wrong.. George

keep practicing

All I can say is keep practicing. The more you shoot the more confident and accurate you will get. Also add some dry fire drills into your training this will help with your basic fundamentals as well as increasing your confidence with the new weapon system. Good luck & have fun!

Low left is 99.99% of the time the shooter.

Lots of info on the net on how to self diagnose and correct. The best fix is a lesson or two with a good instructor.
