Range trip prep, and preloading the mags

I don’t fuss about this.

My range is private, outdoors and quite large. I never feel rushed.

I never feel that my range trips are occasions to dump a bunch of ammo. I’m much more focused on skill maintenance and skill development, neither of which requires a burning a large volume of ammunition.

Saving range time by preloading magazines isn’t a concern for me so I don’t do it.

I've always rolled fully loaded.
I was never really interested in ammo conservation. Rather a philosophy of maintaining a minimum to meet demand.
In my situation, range rates are hourly, and I do not want to waste time thumbing pills into a box.
even outside that situation, if a weapon is in tow, I consider it on call and part of my defensive toolkit just as I do my EDC.
while there are no good days to choose me as your mark, range days can be particularly bad.

I never gave any thought to indoor ranges and ranges that charge by the hour when making my response. In such situations, I can certainly see the point in loading magazines before arrival at the range.

One of my clubs is now having .22 bullseye matches on Wednesday nights. I have enough magazines for my Model 41 to be able to load up for the entire match. I load them up at home so that I have one less thing to think about during the match.

Am I the only person who keeps all removable magazines loaded all the time? At least 10 for every gun. When you need them you will need them full.

Due to the recent ammo shortage, I take my carry guns only. 2-3, (loaded), mags for the bottom feeder. 2-3 cylinders, (unloaded till I'm on the line), for the snub. If I'm doing good, no need to waste any more ammo. If I'm having a bad day, same deal.

For practice I may have a mag or two loaded, but mostly reload magazines at the range with a leisurely pace. Helps me think about what I'm doing.

For events I load up a bunch o' mags, so I won't need to do it between every stage.

I do pretty much the same thing. Basically, for my magazine fed weapons, I keep all my sources loaded, with the exception of a couple safe queens.

I don't know that I could afford to load all of my magazines. I have at least 75 1911 mags.

Yup. One can make safety arguments for not having a loaded mag in a gun, but empty mags are not compatible with any crisis to which it may apply.

I usually preload my mags at home, HOWEVER, just because I have a 17 round magazine does not mean I have to load 17 rounds in it. Most of the time , for range use, I have been loading 8-10 rounds in all my handgun mags. Usually at the end of serious practice, I'll load up a couple of high capacity mags for a mag dump.(for the kid in me) :D

I only have about 30 1911 magazines, but I have enough .45acp on hand to refill them a few times.

I didn’t shoot much until all my mags were full. Now I only shoot if I have the ammo on hand to replenish my magazines.
