Range with my Shield .40

Had a really good time with my brother and my nephew. At the free range at the Henryville state park in Indiana, we finally waited long enough for someone to run out of ammo and we got a table. I brought my Shield, my glock 23 and my brother brought his SCAR semi auto rifle. I ran eagle 180 grn FMJ a box of 50, a box of 50 Winchester white box police over stock ammo, PDX1 in brass. 2 boxes of zombie max 165 grn ammo, and a box of Federal Hydrashock 165 grn.. I'll say this, I shot my glock and my shield, and I actually shot better with the shield than with the glock. Something about the way the gun is set in my hands just makes me shoot cans and plastic bottles and plinking was a lot of fun with it. The 6 round mag ran flawless and the gun ate all ammo with 0 ftf 0 fte 0 any problems. Then, I used the 7 round extended mag. And guess what? I got the mag drop problem with it. I ran 3 mags with no problem, then gave it to my nephew to shoot it, after 1 round the mag dropped and the slide didn't go to battery. I took it from him, fired it and got the same problem. My brother fired it and same problem. I contacted S&W and asked for the mag spring and mag release. I'm not too worried about it, I know its gonna go boom when I need it too, and 6+1 in the pipe of the PDX1 I am not feeling under gunned. It carries very nicely in my Galco summer comfort IWB. This was my first day I carried it, riding in the car, sitting in the restaurant eating breakfast, I didn't really notice it there.
Forgot to mention the trigger. After you fire a round, if you keep the trigger back, and let it out very slow there is a very very nice click letting you know you can pull it again. Very Sweet Trigger.

Sounds like you had a good time, yeah, except for the 7 round mag. I'm sure this problem will eventually be fixed. Glad you like the pistol.

S&W is aware of the mag drop problem and are working on a fix or have the fix. I had my Shield 40 in for repair of a sticking striker blocker. They test fired it after repair and the mag dropped. They sent my gun up to the engineering department. I do not know exactly what they found wrong, but I was told it would take a few weeks to get the parts in they needed to fix it. So I am guessing they had to make a new part or parts for the fix, as they certainly had a lots of stock parts available and were not putting those in.

I called last Friday, July 27, and was told the gun was totally repaired and would be sent out FedEx 2 day air. They had my Shield five weeks. They also said they had added a few extra mags in the shipping box, as they had the gun for such a long time. Should get the gun back tomorrow.

Yes I am pasting into similar threads. Not everyone reads all posts as you do, and some only read their own created thread. This information is to let all know what is happening regarding the mag drop problem. Thank you for your observations.
