I'm looking for your non-standard 25, 50, 100 yard ranges. Something where I can have some freedom to do what I want. Anything like this exist here?

Isaak Walton League on 610. Depends on what you want to do, but it's a nice little range.

I've looked at that...seems a little ummmm...cultic? I need to look into the bigger aspect of the league and not just the chapter here. Also you have to be voted in at a meeting. What's up with that?

I was a member of the Izaak Walton League Chapter in Winchester, Va., they had a nice range. The Izaak Walton League is primarily a conservation organization, not a shooting club. Izaak Walton League clubs have many actiivities, planting food crops for game, conserving soil and water, water quality for fishing, etc.

The club in Winchester had a fishing pond, Boy Scout Camp, archery range, shotgun range, acres of feed for deer and turkeys, and a rifle and pistol range. Members were expected to help out with maintaining the club grounds and range.

A "Cult" they are not.

Expect to be voted in to any private shooting range, my club also does a criminal background check.

Good info and is pretty much what I have been reading.

I guess I'm just new to the club thing for guns. I like that they do a background check.

Well, I've never thought it "cultic", and there's no big deal about the voting in part. Just go to the meeting, and don't be a jerk. When I'm at the range it's mostly rifle shooters and the pistol shooters blasting away at 7-15 yards.

For other clubs I've shot at, try Fairfax Rod & Gun Club. But you have to be voted in and it's way more expensive, plus there's a waiting list. Or the Izaak Walton League chapter in Centerville. Again, have to be voted in and more expensive than the chapter on 610 and a waiting list. Or the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club, but don't know specifics on membership and cost and I get the impression it's mostly the shotgun crowd. Or the Northern VA Gun Club down by Dahlgren, but got to be voted in and mandatory volunteer work. Or the Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club down by Mineral. I've shot some bullseye matches there and it's a nice range, but don't know about the membership requirements. Or you can try the Quantico Rod and Gun Club.

Excellent! Thank you for the information. :)

I have actually joined Sharpshooters...waiting for the range to open back up, they closed the range down to outfit for rifles.

I'm looking for something outdoors as well so the Izaak Walton League looks like my best bet.

Sounds, I will have to check it out. Thanks for the info. :)
