I got a call the other day from ATT wanting to switch me from regular DSL over to fiber optic ATT Uverse. I was told that the regular DSL was eventually going by the wayside and offered the new equipment free, no activation fees and my bill would be cut in half for a year. BIG MISTAKE. Every afternoon or evening I get an IP Diagnostic screen telling me something is wrong with the system. Finally talked to tech support last night and he had me reset the system. I think I understood him to say in heavily accented English it was a known problem they were working on but I would never have to reset it again. WRONG. I've had to reset it again today. So if they call wanting to sell you this mess, don't take it. Tell them you go by the adage if it ain't broke, don't fix it. </end rant>

When I was home for Christmas a couple of years ago I went to a dinner party with my family. I already knew that my parents were very unhappy with Uverse. I talked to four different people at that get together that were also regretting the switch.

I've no doubt you have a problem but I have had success with Centurylink's version of Uverse with tv, phone & internet over the fiber optic phone lines in Glades Co Fl. Solid internet, solid tv and no phone problems. $99 per month for all 3 and that's 10mb broadband. I've heard it's all in your installer and I had a good one.

I get "offers" every mail delivery day....they go, unopened, straight into the recycling bin...

If you switch you'll regret it, I do. We keep loosing the internet and have to reset the modem. Had to reset it this morning. It's no faster than DSL and they said it would be. They didn't put in any new fiber optic cable. All the cable is buried in the ground and has been there for years including the ones leading to our house as well as what's inside the house. The tech told me it won't be any faster because were to far from the router station. The closer your to it the faster your service. Seems like this happens a half dozen times a week. It's a crock!

Now you guys have me a bit scared. Just this past Monday--I got ATT DSL internet service. Mostly has worked well but ive had at least one day where I could still get on line--barely--but the rest of the time so far--has been decent.

Anyway, I dont think DSL is going anywhere--at least for the next 6 months. ((SHRUGGING MY SHOULDERS))

I use Verizon - works very well, reliable & fast. Not that I have any love loss for the Company itslef, but IMHO they are the best overall.

I just moved and had to choose service providers.

The fastest download speed that uverse had was 24mb/sec. Comcast offers over 100mb/sec.

I'm a heavy user, so that made the difference.

We dumped dish rcently and got ATT Uverse.
We already had all or phones(cells) and dsl service with them.
So it was sense able to switch over and have one bill
Been about a month and so far so good no complaints and no resets
Only dislike I have is learning where all the channels are and the buttons on the remotes are all different.
We have 4 tvs in house and shop and with dish you could not pause and or start/playback a recording on 2 of them. I do like that I can no pause and record on my shop TV so if Im out there working on something and I need to I can.
Also no more buffering of signal when we are watching something on Amazon prime running through the wireless to the Wii and to TV.
All in all i like it better and the combined bill is about 40 a month less.

Don't have the option. I live so far out of town DSL barely works.

We have a local cable provider. They're so so, and on the pricey side. One friend has ATT and is happy with it. Another co-worker hated the quality of the picture and told them to come get their equipment back after a week.

I haint never had me no dish, but know those who have.

Either they loved it or hated it.

The ones that loved it were peeps that live out in bum-f#@k Egypt and had no other options.

The ones that hated it were the ones that DID have other options and got the DISH instead only to regret it.

I gotz fibre optic and alltho rather spendy, I gotz no complantze. It certainly beats 'rabbit ears' and a dial-up modem which is what I could afford when I got divorced years ago.

The op and some of the responses just go to prove that situations can and will vary from place to place. We have had AT&T Uverse for about 4 years now it it has been the best tv service we've ever had.

If we have electricity we have tv. Even very rough weather does not effect our tv reception, sound or picture quality. In all this time we have only had one occasion where our screen "pixelated" for about 10 seconds and then cleared right up and that was a very violent thunder storm. That is the only problem we have had.

Last spring our DVR went out and less than 24 hours a technician showed up and put us in a new one at no charge for the equipment or the service. He even took the time to check all our connections etc and gave us a chance to ask any questions we had. Very professional and capable service.

Around here ComCast is the villain. Uverse is the star. ;)

I use UVerse and am well pleased with the service. I much prefer UVerse to the cable service I had previously. Hope you can get yours fixed, or switch back to whatever you were using before.

I live less than a mile from the AT&T serving office for my area and I can't have Uverse but a fella I know lives a mile fuather from the office and he has Uverse. I know why but all AT&T will tell me is they don't know. The equipment needed to provide Uverse in my area was never put in but it was a mile away. Cool eh what? I have AT&T DSL and am very happy with it. I have the supposed slowest but I run at 1.2mbs. Satisfactory.

The reason they tell prospective customers that Uverse come via fiber is that it goes to the remote equipment by fiber and then copper to the customer. Fiber to the customer was determined to be too costly. Cool again.

The statement about being too far away for speedy service is valid and does depend on the copper cable size and length and what is hanging on it.

Remember the people who call you are sales people and will do what it takes to make a sale.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was a data and carrier tech with AT&T for 32 years and retired 12 years ago.

Not a problem with the DSL

It's not the DSL, it's their business practices of selling 'bundles' that always cost more than they tell you. I finally told them I wanted 1) a phone and 2)DSL...... no bundles of anything but of course by then they had gotten a lot of money out of me.

Im a first time customer from ATT for internet. I callled them this past Monday and the kid on the phone had to put me on hold with every question I had to ask. The only reason I knew certain things in a certain deal they were running-is a friend of mine had just signed up with them a few days earlier. Anyway, its lucky for me that I called back and got a different person on the phone-because the kid creating my account-didnt enter what I had wanted. He tried giving me the slowest spped-even thou I told him I wanted the fastest--so one wonders how he got those wires crossed?? That was one of about 5 things the kid got incorrect. The lady I next talked with corrected it all and also told me the kid was brand new and I was his first caller.

Your negative experience with U-Verse is not the case everywhere. I've had the service for over a year and it has been virtually flawless. A number of folks in my neighborhood have moved to the service and have had a similar happy experience.

I'm sure that there are customers like you who have had a bad experience but it is not "Universal"... Kinda like saying, don't let anyone talk you into a S&W because I got a bad one.

My oldest son lives in Florida. He also has ATT- verse. Other than being able to tape more than 2 shows at a time, he hates it. During my visits, i find that their wi-fi connection is basically useless unless you sitting in the same room as the router.
