Hello everybody! I'm new to this so please bear with me. I have a model 16-4 with an 8 3/8" barrel. It looks (and feels) to be in excellent shape. the cylinder lock-up is amazingly absolutely rock solid! Wait...i degress! My question is...i have found that information on this gun is little to non-existance on the web. Does anybody know the approximate value? Thanks!

I have no idea what your revolver is worth. But coincidentely I looked yesterday at one of these weapons with a 4" barrel in virtually unfired condition; it was priced at $750. So there's a starting point for you.

You have a nice one there. According to SCSW, a total of 8800 Model 16-4's were manufactured 1989-92 in 4", 6", and 8-3/8" barrel lengths. They aren't rare, but they are scarce, and a lot of folks here (including me) really like them. The price would depend on the condition of the gun, and also whether you have the original factory wood combat grips, box, papers, etc. Depending on these factors, the price range would probably be anywhere from $600 to $900.

Thanks for the info. Not really interested in selling it. Just for kicks and grins here's the story on how i got it....Many years ago i gave one of my brothers a model 29 with an 8 3/8 barrel that i had bought back in the 70's. Long story short, he went a little nuts and bought every S&W that had the big barrel he could find!! Sad part is he wasn't at it too long as he "checked out" a couple years later. So, i got my 29 back along with the 16-4, a 22, and a 38...all with the 8 3/8 inchers. All in beautiful condition and safe queens now (always prefered Colts anyway...lol). thanks again for the info guys!

Does it look like this:

Its not rare yet, but shoot your, drop it a time or two. You could even put it in the bed of the truck and drive down a dirt road for 20 miles. Then mine which is new in the box will be worth more. $1000 dollars wouldn't buy mine, but I will sell you this 10-32 for one :D .

Thanks for all the info!
