Rarest Car

In the mid 50's my Dad's daily driver was a Panhard Dyna. Very rare in the USA and not very popular in France where they were built. Between 1955 and 1958 he had four new ones - the 1957 was defective so the factory replaced it.

My daily driver out of college was a 1961 Mercedes Benz 190 SL coupe/roadster. When I got it it had been rode hard and put up wet. After three years it needed a lot of work that I couldn't afford so I sold it.

Rare cars

I drove a factory stock midnight blue 1964 Pontiac GTO to work daily, for many years; It was equipped with a 3 speed, floor mounted, Hurst, tranny, single quad Rochester carb., factory dash mounted tac., front seat belts, 2 rear seat belts. Seat belts were an accessory at the time.

That old Goat, had few amenities, but plenty of 'skat & get'. They pretty much dominated the drag strips, and street racing for their first couple of years.

The titles of GTO's, listed then as a Pontiac tempest to keep insurance costs down.

The police department, Of Columbus, OH, kept a reference list of GTO owners.

On one occasion, towing our 17' Airstream travel trailer, on the main drag of Lancaster, OH, we were stopped in the center lane, at a red traffic light. When a guy in a 1957 Chevy hot rod, parked beside us, started gunning his engine, challenging us to a race. He was unaware that we were towing our trailer. When the light changed, I beat him to the next light badly. In the process, he discovered that we were towing a trailer, and shamefully avoided us.

Faster cars soon came along to challenge those GTOs, but I never lost one of the many races I had with my factory stock, 1964 GTO!

Friend of mine owns a 1966 Datsun 1600 Roadster like this one. I've tried to buy it from him; no go !:p

An old HS classmate of mine bought this earlier this year,. The little Deuce Coupe.

Then there is my former boss' XK 150. She was a Jag person through and through. I turned over 1700 miles that day.

Enjoy.

Paid for with cash, no financing. That alone makes it a rather a rare item today.

Some rare cars I owned or drove

My first rare car was an Alfa Romeo 2600 Coupe. Then a 997 Mini Cooper came along that was a race care made streetable. The fastest was a 1957 FI Corvette that I had built the 301 engine in it with a 65 Corvette FI setup. A real 1964 Cobra that I restored for a friend.
Three 1930's era Packard limousines and a 1960 Cadillac Coupe for another friend. I also chauffeured these cars for him as a side gig. The latest was this 1992 Miata with a LS1 and 4L65E trans. Very Fast.
