Ratchet/extractor star

Good evening .... In doing a little glass bead blasting work on a police turn-in, Model 65 I was using compressed air to clean off the residue. One of the two extractor line up pins was somehow blown into my ( needed to mow )back yard grass. There being a shortage of comprehensive gun shops local to me, I wonder if some of you "ole heads" have a ready sub for the S&W pins ? The remaining pin is probably enough since this is a low pressure area, but still I prefer to keep it the way S & W put it out. Thanks and regards, RG

A numbered drill bit shank makes a good extractor locating pin material.

The exact size escapes me at the moment, so you will have to use a micrometer to measure the remaining pin and then match that up with a numbered drill bit chart.

I have always heard of using piano wire of the correct diameter to substitute for a pin. All you need are a pair of dikes and a piano.
Each of the lower notes on a piano have three strings, so its not like your doing any major damage.

I have some if you need one. If you decide to make one, they measure .055 diam. and .198 in length. If you make your own, taper each end of the pin slightly prior to install.....see attachment. (with apology for the drawing)

And when you replace it use Loc-Tite on the pin. Since there is no reason to remove it again use whatever you have, red, green.

I've found tiny screws that were lost in grass and dirt with a strong magnet. Just a thought.

If you decide to make one, they measure .055 diam. and .198 in length.

The 0.055" drill is a #54.
