RE: Alabama Collector Show Saturday & Sunday

This is the weekend for the Alabama Collector Assn. summer show. We do three a year March/July/October.
Hours are 9-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. Cost is $10 per person and is payable at the door through a cashless transaction. Parking is free and there is a ton of it.
The show is at the MET Complex in Hoover, AL in the Finley Center. It is a very large freestanding building and is carpeted. It is a lot easier on the back than concrete.
This will be my third trip, and if you can't find what you are looking for here it probably hasn't been made yet.
Very limited flea marked junque here. The show is very well run, security is provided by the OFF DUTY officers of the Hoover, PD.
This is a For Real Gun Show.
Guns, Edged Weapons, Militaria, Mil-Surp, grips, mags, parts, and just about any accessory you might want.

RE: Friday in Hoover

The Mrs, and I meandered over to the Finnley Center at the Hoover Met and discovered that we did indeed have tables. (We will sign up tomorrow for the October Show and not screw up this time.
As I was unloading the wares from the truck and piling them up on the cart my buddies showed up and handled all of the hard work. We got set up in less than an hour of arriving..
Lots of SWCA table covers in evidence, lots of older S&Ws scattered about.
I saw everything from top-breaks, to early 20th century specimens, and on into the 21st century. Way more specimens from Springfield than Hartford, CT.
About 3/4 of the tables were set up and folks were still arriving when we folded up the Tee-pee and headed for the motel.
If everybody shows tomorrow I am estimating well over 500 tables.
Lots of USGI, foreigh Mil-surp, Iindian Wars to the 21st century.
Lots to see, lots to buy-sell-trade.
If you come to buy bring yankee greenbacks, if you come to trade bring something interesting, and if you come to look take your time and enjoy the
view.
Even with all of my S&Ws from the 50 to the 70s most or my lookers were interested in my 1913 COLT "MODEL 1911 of U.S.NAVY".
I have owned it since 2000 and it is one of the pieces I really don't care if I sell.
We didn't buy or sell anything today.
Doors open to the public at 9AM tomorrow.
If you are in the area stop by and say hi.

Thom, I'm at my been there forever C-5 table. What is your table/s number? I have to roam around every couple of hours to keep my knees limber, so if you see a green USCG ball cap roam by, It has a 99.9% chance it is me. See you tomorrow. Larry

RE: Saturday in Hoover

I met up with Oldiron, who is set up right next to my buddy Ray Richards.
While we are not located at the back of the building we can certainly see it from where we are, but the Secretary has promised to try to locate us closer to the front of the building next time based on Medical needs.
Right off the bat ai bought a M15-3 4" from Ray. Then we started moving merchandise. I actually sold a M459 and moved a bunch of grips, leather and dust collectors. Right now I have spent $656 on the M15, a S&W M39 holster and a box of .38 Special Ammo. And we have taken in a bit over $740.
I have also agreed to buy a Argentine Systema 27 1911A1 tomorrow...sure hope I sell something else before we close tomorrow.
At 8:55 this AM there were over 100 folks standing in line at the door. And the crowd was pretty heavy until noon. It slowed some, but kept up a steady pace until closing. But, most of the folks were trying to hold up their socks through their front pockets. Not as much free money flowing as at other outings here.
All-in-All it has still been a great show. I am not at all disappointed.
Wrap-up will be tomorrow evening when I get home.

RE: Sunday in Hoover

Today was about the worst (boring) gun show day I have ever had. I thought yesterday was bad, but today was even worse.
We finally made a sale about 2PM for a whole $10. We sold two used pair of sound protectors (shooting ears).
I finally got the chance to walk around and check out all of the goodies about 1PM. I didn't see anything else that absolutely screamed "take me", but there were some very nice vintage S&Ws and a few nice pieces from Hartford.
I guess that I would have had to have about $10K in my pocket to grab everything of interest.
I did pick up my 1948 Systema 27 1911A1 on the way to my table this AM. And after all was said and done we sold off $749 and spent $1557. Somehow that does not compute.
There was not much of a crowd until after noon. But since this IS the Bible Belt that is to be expected.
Even with the slow sales we still had a great time.
The Andalusia Club show in the next county is just four weeks away, maybe things will be better there.
We folded the Tee-Pee right after we made our only sale and beat the rush to get out of Hoover.
We got home in about 3.5 hours and arrived before the sun went down.
The next show report will be from Andalusia next month.
