Hello fellow S&W gun owners,
I have a question that I hope someone out there will shed some light on. I own a S&W M&P 45 STAINLESS. Due to all the use from the years the one part of the gun that has lost most of the blackening is the finger grips on the slide stop.
Is there a way that I can DIY black oxide or blackening of some sort to bring back a newer look to a used gun?
I have read dozens of articles online and everyone has a different option on how to restore and refinish gun parts.
Is it worth DIY methods or should I just bite the bullet(pardon the punt) and try finding someone that can do professional blackening?
Any leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I recently thought of doing powder coating since the initial cost of the equipment is no too bad and I have it for other projects.

Speak your minds and let me know what you think.
Thank you

I have touched up the safety & slide stop lever on my older M2.0 Shield with a bluing touch up pen, worked quite well but will eventually wear back off as it did before
Cleaned with alcohol & a Q-Tip first applied the bluing pen & washed it with alcohol afterwards again with a Q-Tip, didn't even remove the parts

Small parts can be touched up with a flat or semi-gloss black automotive engine paint or a spray on gun finish from Brownell's ... read the descriptions of the finishes and try to match your pistols finish .
Small parts even look good when done in contrasting color's .
Some gun "finishes " can be baked on and are quite durable .

I have a few nitrided stainless barrekls that need the barrel hood area re-blackened. There are some stainless blackening solutions, but they are hit or miss.
