Re Flocking a Presentation case

Well done video. I have a model 25 box that needs re-doing, so I may look into getting the needed items to do so. Thanks for posting the video !!

I have watched several of these how to videos on flocking and restoring S&W Presentation Cases. This is the BEST one I have ever watched. This guy is GREAT!

Really good video. I have a model 25 case that needs redone also. Been thinking about having it redone but I think I will get the kit and try it myself. Thanks for posting.

Most that I’ve seen in need of repair had cracks in the blow molded plastic framework. I couldn’t get any sound, but I don’t think he addressed that part of the repair(?)

Just an observation.

We know what happened to pretty much all the interiors
of the Presentation cases from the factory. Disintegrated.

Admittedly, this guys case looks good when he's done.

Question came to mind is, will it last, or go the way of the
original factory process?

I have no idea what technique forum member Joe Cebull
applies in his restoration process, but...I will share he has
done cases for me that are now many, many years old
that are as pristine as the day he sent them back to me.

The case pictured above is not flocked, it was covered with a blue cloth! S&W used 4 different types of liners in these cases, 2 were originally flock and 2 were covered with a material! The type liners in the video were not originally flocked. I cover this type of liner with a blue cloth.

If you decide to flock your liners DO NOT apply the flocking to the type liners made of styrofoam! The adhesive will EAT the styro! Also if you apply the flocking over the foam rubber top it will make a "hard crust" on the foam rubber! This is my opinion based on 15 years of experience in "refurbishing" these Mahogany Presentation cases!

I was waiting for you to chime in when I saw this thread yesterday. Thank you for providing this information. Very helpful. I have an NOS 29-2 with shipping carton, but the flocking disintigrated.

A guy I bought my 29-2 from had more than one gun and more than one case apparently. I sent the box to Joe Cebull for restoration. I got a call from him telling me my top and bottom were mismatched. The bottom was correct for the gun so he fixed me a correct top. I wouldn’t have known the difference, but the next owner my kids sell the gun to will enjoy it. Thanks to Joe.

The gentleman did a very fine job, but I think the flocking will come off again in time. That is why I prefer Joe's method.

Joe does a great Job no doubt. I posted this because I thought he had stopped doing them.I remember some time back reading some post where he had been in reachable for some members looking to have some done. Glad he is still doing them.

My new 1980-ish 8 3/8" Model 29 came with a presentation case that has already been stripped. The plastic is also cracked and missing pieces in a couple of places? Can it be saved? What should this case have had for fabric or flocking? The top is a foam material.

Hi everyone. I have a couple questions about presentation cases; I didn’t see a sticky on the subject, is there one detailing things like how many different size cases and inserts did S&W make, and which styles go with what years?

I recently purchased a 25-2 with a 6.5” barrel, circa ‘79/80, which didn’t come with a presentation box. After doing a little research, I purchased what I thought would be correct for the year gun. The outer box is in excellent condition and the inner was restored, someone recovered it in blue felt and did an outstanding job. One issue- the insert is for a 6” barrel, not 6.5”, so my gun does not completely fit. This leaves me with a dilemma as what to do. Can I modify the inner to fit my extra barrel length? Does anyone have/sell an insert for my barrel length- will it fit my outer box? I’d have to have it recovered in material to match. Or do I have to sell it and start over- presentation boxes are not inexpensive and seem to be rising in price all the time.

JCElect does great work! Reasonable price too!

Joe (JCElect) does excellent work with many years experience on presentation cases at very reasonable prices...

Why on Earth would you want to purchase all the materials and try to do this yourself when Joe does a superb job at such a reasonable price?

Sir, your case liners can be saved! The original covering WAS NOT FLOCKING as implied in the video above! the original covering was a material that disintegrated over time whether the case was used to store a gun or not! The picture above of my Silhouette model is your type of liners recovered with a cloth.

Hey Suprasonic
There was a subject in the tool bar at the top of this page that had commentaries from knowledgeable people on this forum! One of them was a commentary from Doc 44 on the subject of the different types of liners. This topic has been removed! ? ! ? I will try to explain the different types/lengths! All dates are approx.
A. 1960-1969 (Clam Shell) styro bottom & top 4", 6 1/2", & 8 3/8"
B. 1969-1974 styro bottom - foam rubber top 4", 6 1/2", & 8 3/8"
C. 1974-1979 plastic bottom & top 3 1/2", 4", 5", 6", 6 1/2", & 8 3/8"
D. 1979-1983 plastic bottom, foam rubber top, & tool compartment
4", 6", 8 3/8", & 10 5/8"
I do not RESTORE these liners/cases! I refurbish them(return them to a condition to allow them to be used as intended and last over time)! Two of the type liners I repair and reflock and two of the type I recover with a cloth, as done originally! Sorry for the looong post!
