re Mod 66

Did S&W make an 8 3/8 in length bbl in the 66? If so I've never seen one. Thanks in advance.

I had a 4" and I miss it.

I have a 6" bbl.
It handles great. Actually really nice balance.
Extra length of bbl balances out lift from recoil.
A real nice bedroom revolver!!!

There were a few 686s made with the 8 3/8" barrel.
If you remove the full length underlug it would look like a big 66.

...and 3" barrels were also produced. Do i recall that some LE agency had some 5" made up? Or did i just think that would be really cool?

Actually most, if not all, of the 4 inch guns were 4 1/4 inch. I learned that on this forum. I'm betting there were some real 4 inch M66's made during the first 8 years. Mine is a transitional one from 1982ish. The longer 4 1/4 inch barrel came on this one..

Interesting. Would a 66 no dash be a 4 or a 4 1/4?

I just measured my 1972 no dash 66 and it's 4"
