Can anyone confirm the meaning of "RE - N - 2" on a Model 30-1 stamped onto the frame under the grips? The "RE" is in a rectangular box. Thank you. (No picture available, and couldn't figure how to attach one if I did.)

I was going to welcome you to the Forum, but then realized you have been a member for neigh onto 1 1/2 Years!

Is this revolver nickel plated? Are there any date stamps visible-like 8-72, for August 1972?

Yes. 3" nickel plated M-30-1. No date stamps present. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind offer to post picture(s), Kevin. But I have none and can't take any. (I'm out of state.) This is my first post, and I feel lucky to have gotten this far ;-) I do have a drawing of the stamping on the frame under the grip, but that is all. It is as described above. Thanks again!

R-N in a box usually means refinished, nickel. I'd guess your stamps mean the same thing, but as StrawHat says, a picture would be helpful

The standard factory stamping for a refinished nickel gun would be R - N in a rectangle, along with a three or four digit date stamp in a tiny font on the front lower edge of the nearby grip frame, like 12.20 would be for the current month and year. So look more carefully.

N is for nickel finish. RE, usually inside a circle, is a common stamping for revolvers made in the late 60s and early 70s (probably later too) that was put there by individuals who assembled, fitted, or inspected the gun. The grip frame usually has numbers, circles and triangles with letters inside them stamped also. Again, put there during the manufacturing process.
