Reading S&W factory parts lists

[Recon]

I recently downloaded the S&W factory parts list for revolvers. I noticed on revolvers that have had numerous changes they show some of the parts as obsolete.

Does "obsolete" that mean those particular parts are no longer available or just not the current design?
