Escaping CA to OR - soon!
Any suggestions on a source for these? Numrich is out and that auction site is out or wants $19.00 per. Brownells has the plunger.

Any "suitable substitutes" for the spring?

Call S&W Customer Service and tell then what you need. They will possibly send you these small parts without charge and not charge shipping either. 800-331-0852 You will need to listen closely to the prompts.

S&W is the first place to look for S&W parts!

When I tear one of these down, I do it inside a new 1 gal zip lock bag. Reduces the search area for flying parts; it happens.

Yes, I learned that too - mostly. ;)

Actually I found a late 1970's Model 48 with 8 3/8" bbl that someone had mounted a scope on and tossed the sight. I ordered a "used, reblued and fully assembled" rear sight from Numrich ($27.50 - good price) and when it arrived the damn windage screw head was snapped off because whoever had it previously turned the blade all the way left. Thank you Numrich. :(

I drilled out the nut and ordered a "rear sight kit". Am assuming it doesn't include the spring and plunger.

Will call Smith and see if they have the spring.

It was a couple years ago but S&W CS had the blade kit w/spring, plunger Screw and nut. Delivered it to the house for a small fee. Give them a try. It can't hurt. If they have that TINY spring and plunger they will probably send it to you for free. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

If I could find it, there is one "somewhere" inside my shop. I crawled the floor with a magnet for a long time and gave up. Ordered form S&W and got it in 3 days, This was a few years ago.

This has been my experience, so I would certainly ask S&W.

To the original poster: Remember you need two of each. I know you likely only lost one set when it "went flying," or whatever, but I have a thing about replacing springs at the same time. You don't have to, of course, but that is just me. :)
