I want to switch out to 10-8 Plain rear sight and use it with the standard already installed night sight.

Does the 10-8 work with the front NIGHT SIGHT? I know it is designed to work with the standard front sight.

Also: CAN I knock off the rear sights and install the 10-8s with a drift with a little work? (I don't think I'll need the rear NS any more). Or do you all recommend buying the $120 sight tool to do all this? I have three M&Ps. At the same time, I have already installed the Apex sear and spring, but seek to improve further by either polishing the FPB plunger or replacing with the Apex plunger.

Thanks.

If you get the rear .156" width you should be fine. I'm using a 10-8 .156 notch width modular rear sight on my TRP with factory front night sight. Some people have used the .140". In my opinion the .156 is a good compromise as far as having enough light and accuracy. As to the question of punch or pusher.... try taping up the punch and knocking it out/moving it first. If it is stubborn, you may need a pusher.

Edit: Also be advised that you may need to fit the dovetail on the sight. Do not expect it to just drop in.

I couldn't find a decent drift when I needed it and I made one that has been used multiple times on Pro and Fullsize. I may try it on my shield when I do sights and trigger after heat and freeze on the rear sight. $2 piece of aluminum bar from HD sawed to size and filed to fit dovetail. Crude, cheap and yet very effective with an appropriate hammer. And it's never left a mark...
