I recently sent the sideplate from my M19 to Ford's for their master blue refinishing.
It came back beautifully polished and very, very dark blue, almost black (like royal blue Python). In fact so black that when I put it back on the gun it stands out too much compared to the original finish which is more of the standard blueish-black.
Any way to lighten the sideplate a bit without ruining Ford's work ?

Thanks in advance.

In short, no.

Didn't they recommend that you send them the whole gun for re-finish?

Blueing color is dependant on the chemicals used, percentages in the salts and the temperature. Degree of polish is also a factor. There is no guarantee that even the same company will produce the same color and polish on different days, especially if they are trying to match an existing finish without haveing the whole gun to compare the work to.
