Hey Guys,

While cleaning the lock work of a Model 15-3, I noticed that the rebound slide pin was loose in the rebound slide. This is the pin that operates the hammer block. Kuhnhausen says this pin should be tight but the manual does not say how to tighten it. Is it a simple matter of trying a new pin or is there a proper way to tighten the original? The action seems to function properly and the revolver shoots fine as is. Thanks for the help.

This is one of the very rare cases where using Loctite is an acceptable solution. Take note, you should NEVER EVER use Loctite on an part that screws together with something else. If you issues with an extractor star unscrewing from the ejector rod Loctite is NOT the solution, the solution is to simply apply a bit more torque when tightening it.

Thanks for the help guys, I will give red loctite a try.

Sorry, don’t agree.

Small threads often can’t be torqued enough to be secure, this is why thread locker was invented.

Easy enough to apply heat to break it free when desires, this is why heat guns were invented.

Or you can buy a new mim rebound slide and the pin is part of it, a one piece design.

Are you taking about the frame stud (post) against which the rear of the rebound slide spring is captured and rests?

In my armorer class they said that was a factory-only repair, since it's installed with a heavy press and needs to be tight.

I'd call the factory and ask for a mailing label, and see if they'd cover it under the warranty (unless they find signs of damage from some tinkering under the hood, so to speak).
