I came across and purchased a 4" 686 no-dash (serial #AABxxxx) for next to nothing. The catch is, the gun is complete, except for the internals (hammer, trigger, springs, etc.). This revolver has had the recall work performed, as it has the "M" stamp. My question is, do I order 686 no-dash parts or will some of the parts have to be from a later model, to fit with the recall work?

Call Smith and tell them what you've got. Ask if they have the internals you would need to get it shooting. My guess is that the parts for the -4's will work but the factory will know for sure. Otherwise you should be able to find parts specifically for the no - at one of the various online parts joints. Try Numrich first.

This was in a dept's. evidence and they received a court papers to dispose of their inventory. A dealer traded new equipment for all of their firearms. It's missing everything internally except for the bolt assembly and the cylinder stop & spring. The barrel, frame, cylinder, etc. appear to be in very good condition. Who knows why it ended up this way, but it certainly will make a good project!
