I recently purchased a S&W revolver from a friend. On the right side of the barrel it reads 38 s.&w. special ctg. On the left side it reads Smith & Wesson. The left side of the reciever contains the logo right behind the cylinder. The bottom of the handle reads, 6D81671. The swing arm for the cylinder reads, C5, also under that 90272. On the frame in behind the swing arm it reads, model 10-8. This revolve has a 4 inch barrel. Any informtion on this gun would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Alex

More Info

It is a six shot cylinder. It also has fixed sights and from the little i do actually know about these revolvers it has the heavy barrel on it.

Thanks again,
Alex

Welcome to the forum.

It's a heavy barrel M&P (Military & Police) revolver from around 1980. Excellent gun and a classic S&W.

The number on the butt is the serial number. C5 is an inspector or fitters mark and 90272 is an assembly number that should also be on the left side of the grip frame under the grip. The right grip panel (if factory original) should have the serial number of the gun (681671) stamped on the back.

Thanks

You wouldnt happen to kow about how much this particular firearm would be worth in good condition do you?

"Good condition" is too vague to put an accurate value on and prices vary by region. In SE Michigan, a rough but sound shooter is probably worth $175 while a pristine example might bring $300-$350 (maybe a little more with the box, paper and tools).
