Recessed, Not Pinned?

Hi, I have a 28-2 with a recessed cylinder, but the barrel isn't pinned. I thought on magnum calibers the pinning and recessing went together. What do I have here, a transitional? If so, does that make it worth more?

Yes, you have a transitional. You'll find magnums with the pin and without recessed chambers and you'll find them without the pin and with recessed chambers.

It may have additional interest to a HP collector who wants one of each variation, but they generally don't command a premium and may be a turn off for others. Personally, I think they're all interesting variations.

Your 28-2 has a friend. My 13-2 has the same condition.

I have a 27-2 that's recessed and not pinned. Serial number is N942xxx. have seen a couple other N frames with the same configuration. I like to think that it doubles the value of my 27 but I'm having a hard time convincing others.

That 13 is beautiful. I have it's fraternal twin, a 66-2. The serial # of my 28-2 is N952xxx, not far off from your 27-2, Timetripper.

I have a 28-2 6in also recessed but not pinned. Serial# is N9500xx.

I agree with s&wchad. It's not worth a premium, and it might even be a deal breaker for some.
