From another thread:

I understand ... good question really. If I qualified with a revolver in California and carry an autoloder in California, and it is listed on my California permit, if I go to a state that requires, by law, that a concealed carry user qualify with an autoloader in order to carry an autoloader, have I broken that states laws by not having qualified with an autoloader if I carry an autoloader ? Am I obliged to only carry the revolver in that state, as that is what I qualified with ?

Good idea to separate this out so we don't hijack the other thread. Since this state doesn't issue CCWs unless you're connected or have some special needs, I've got a UT permit. UT doesn't require any shooting and does not indicate any specific type of firearm.

As posted in the other thread:

Not in OK. Although OK requires firing an autoloader to get an OK license to carry an autoloader, it recognizes CA (and all state licenses), period. We also recognize UT, which does NOT require ANY firing to get their handgun license.

When you are in OK, you may carry a concealed handgun, as defined in the SDA, regardles of what you can carry back home. What you did to get the license is between you and the issuing state; all we care is whether the issuing state considers it to be valid.

Oklahoma recognizes valid permits from other states. Nothing in OK statues specifically states that it will allow those from another state to carry a handgun not on their carry license. If you are revolver restricted, I would advise you to carry under whatever restrictions your state of issue has placed on your license. I would advise an abundance of caution.

Oklahoma Statutes 21 O.S. §, 1290.26
RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT AUTHORITY

The State of Oklahoma hereby recognizes any valid concealed carry weapons permit or license issued by another state.

Any person entering this state in possession of a firearm authorized for concealed carry upon the authority and license of another state is authorized to continue to carry a concealed firearm and license in this state; provided the license from the other state remains valid. The firearm must be carried fully concealed from detection and view, and upon coming in contact with any peace officer of this state, the person must disclose the fact that he or she is in possession of a concealed firearm pursuant to a valid concealed carry weapons permit or license issued in another state. . . .

TITLE 21 § 1290.7 Construing authority of license

2 of this act;

2. Carry or possess any pistol in any manner or in any place otherwise prohibited by law;

That is my exact position. I do not go anywhere that my guns cannot go. I will not spend money in places where my gun is not welcome.

Our motorhome group wanted to go to Canada but several of us do carry guns so we said if the meeting was held in Canada we would not be there since the guns could not be there. It was held in MO instead.
