I just picked up a 22 bolt rifle for the kids to practice up with. It is tapped for scope mounts, with no front sight. I don't want to jump that far ahead...I would rather they learn with peeps first and then graduate up to a scope. I learned that way many years ago and remember it as very enjoyable and accurate shooting.

What kind of peep do you recommend? Another big question I have is how do I select the height of the front sight, to match the rear? I'm going to have to install something up front...so should it be a simple bead or shroud/insert of some type? I've been looking at Williams, Talley, Lyman and a couple others. But if you have any expert advice I'd like to hear it.

XS Sights make a line of "Ghost Ring" peeps.
I don't know if they'd have one for the .22 you have but there was a
set on a Marlin M39 I picked up a few years ago.

They are fine sights. I put them on a .41 Magnum Marlin and plan to put them on a .30-30 soon also.

Williams foolproof with or without target knobs are good sights and durable. Combine that with a front sight the has inserts you can swap out and you have a nice trainer.
The CMP has surplus Kimber 82 G rifles that are a steal for the cost and perfect for a trainer or position shooting.
