Hi All,

Could you reccomend a few good gun vaults to house my two hand guns. A M&P .40 and S&W 1911. I'd like to have roomo for clips as well. I'd like quick access in case of emergency, so I've thought about biometircs. But I am open to more experienced comments.

Thanks

There are many good ones out there. For MY uses, I would not go that route. They are small and can be fastened to many things but they can also be broken out and taken as well.

I would invest in a small upright safe, fireproof, fastened to the floor that is more difficult to remove and carry off. A person can always remove a gun from their safe, say at bedtime, and place it in a secure but fast accessible location. In my situation, in addition to my working sidearm, I have two guns not stored in safes around the house. Only the wife and I know where they are located and both are readily accessible.

A nice entry level safe to hold maybe 8-10 guns can be had for less than $400. They last a life time, can be remodeled inside to hold more guns and they are easily resold with most of the original cost recovered.

I have a few Gun Vaults around my house for quick handgun access. All of which are high up and bolted down. This is primarily because I have enough kids to make a baseball team (although the Gun Vaults are just there compliment there keen knowledge of gun safety and general common sense). I like them a lot and they have always worked very well for me. I also have a couple full size safes which offer many additional benefits for gun and ammo storage, but speed of access is just not one of them.

I have two of those also. These is just enough room for extra mags. There is also a new model out. Doesn't look like much extra room for a magazine though.

I am always skeptical about failures of these relatively inexpensive units just at the time you need your weapon. I KNOW there have not been a lot of reported problems, but I guess I am just a "low-tech" kind of guy. IF you DON'T have young children around, then you might just want to find a nice secure hiding place. There are many in the average household. IMHO the gun vaults pictured above tell a thief exactly what is in there and given a few minutes he can easily pry it opened. A well hidden gun has to be found first.

I have truly given this a test. All my close friends know I am a gun-guy, and I have told them there is a loaded gun in a certain room and challenge them to find it within 15 minutes. NONE have done so as of this time! However the gun IS accessible to ME in under 10 seconds.

No, I am not telling where!

I have a Stack On Mini Storage Vault, which sits on a short dresser right beside my bed, it is pretty stout (28 pounds) has 2 shelves with plenty of room to get gun out without banging it on things (like Gunvault latch that has a big U-shape hook standing up on the door. Can change the code for entry to suit your needs, has key back up. I like that you can have it either beep when you enter numbers or have it silent. I have had mine 2 years still on the same battery, and I open it every night, and close in the morning. Other people must like it too, as it has a 4.8 out of 5 stars with 40 reviews at Cabelas.

Things I that I didn't like about the GunVault, has a history of going through batteries quickly (perhaps fixed on newer models.) The cost was about double for the 2000 model, which still has less space. And that latch on the door, if you see check it out on the 1000 model, which really stood out as being in the way.

**Sorry pictures are disproportionate**

This is the 1000 (9.5 pounds), hopefully you can see why I had issues with the latch location.

I have had my Gun Vaults for at least 6 years and I am not having any battery related issues. I open the one in my bedroom almost every day and have never had the batteries die on me. Of course I change them every year during daylight savings time regardless (in the fall).

But I also have 2 stack on vaults to help out my large safe and I like them too.
