Hi all,

Going through the gunsafe, I found a Lew Horton Mod. 24-3 3" sitting there, just waiting to be found. Given all the potential cr*p with new gun laws surfacing every day, I would like to resurrect this little beauty and start CCW duty for her.

OK, I've done the requisite Search through the threads on the Lew Horton Mod. 24-3 3" cuties and have come to the following conclusions:

1. Finding the original 24-3 or 624-3 S&W holsters can be a "hit or miss" proposition. Guess I just missed one in the Classifieds last month.

2. So I started looking at contemporary options (Lobo Model 1, El Paso #88, Milt Sparks PMK, Alessi Speed Scabbard, etc.). Lining or no? If yes, suede or skin? Belt holes or snaps? Other recommendations?

3. Where can I buy a holster that I don't have to wait 6-8 weeks (or more) to get? Will an off-the-shelf holster for a 4-inch N-frame be a good alternative to custom-made leather for my new playmate?

So many questions, so little time.

TIA in advance for your replies,
"Point Blank" Frank

BTW, I still remember when Lew Horton had a retail outlet about 1 mile from my home in Framingham, MA. I cried when they closed. It's now a laundromat!

Hi H Richard, Can't help[ you on this one but the 24-3 of oursubject cauht my eye. I'm still carrying mine in a sock waiting for someone to suggest the right fitting pancake for mine. BTW I've had mine for 30 years or more---love it. The reason I'm on here today is that I miket my barrel today and find it's only .424. I wanted to find out what the standad .44 S&W bore is. No help there so far. I'm getting ready to load a bunch of cast boolits for it and a little leary about using .429 sized slugs. If anyone on here reads this can you give me an answer to this?

Hi Guys---I cannot tell a lie, I said I still carry mine in a sock---not true, When not residing at home in a safe it's in an Uncle Mike's but that's certainly not a CC option but get's a little more respect than a sock. If it weren't such a bulky thing I might consider it for CC but it would be awfully hard to conceal.

Lobo Leather it is!

Hey gendaw44,

From one Oregonian (albeit displaced to the right coast) to another, I can't help you on the bullet size question -- maybe re-post your query in the Reloading Section under "Ammunition-Gunsmithing". Please let me know what the answer is 'cause I'll start reloading my .44Spl brass soon.

Hey H Richard & Iggy,

If you guys recommend calling Ray @ Lobo for my holster, that's high enough praise for me. I wonder what time they get up?

Now I need to dig out a pair of RB Spegels or Nills to replace the factory combats (heh, heh). The madness never stops, does it?????

El Paso #88....Where can I buy a holster that I don't have to wait 6-8 weeks (or more) to get?

I have a few El Paso #88's from several years ago that are excellent quality holsters and well worth the wait. However, my last purchase from them late last year was a disappointment. It took nearly 3 months to get it and when it arrived I was disappointed in the quality of the product. It was not up to the quality of several earlier holsters I had purchased from them. Heavy dark dies to cover up imperfections and deep scratches in the leather. Emails were never answered and when I finally got the guy on the phone, he was quite rude to talk to. I don't know if they have changed hands or not, but I'm doubtful if I will buy from them again.

I have a Galco I like very much. It's LH and molded fit. The numbers on it are B129WC, CM135. I use .430" 240gr SWC Hornady #11108 in my 24-6. They are pre lubed. I crimp right at the top of the side. I also use .430" for .44 Mag.

I was once told by a knowledgable shooter that the fixed sight model 21's shoot best using 200g cast. I use 200g RNFP .431. My 21-4 is a tack driver with those bullets on top of 5.5gr W231. I also have a Lew Horton 24-3 3" cutie that digests that load almost as well.
