I have a cheap red dot on my buckmark .22
I like the red dot since my eyes are getting older.

I know very little about them and would appreciate any recommendations?

Thanks

i use a Leupold deltapoint (the original, not pro) and like it very much. from what i've seen on here the trijicon rmr works very well, and the burris fastfire is okay....

If you don't want to spend as much on your red dot as you did on your gun, take a look at JPoint. I put the JPoint4 on my M&P9 Pro C.O.R.E. and it's been wonderful.

Some people claim that since there's no on/off switch, there's unnecessary battery drain, but I keep the cover on it when I'm not shooting, and the specs say I should get about a year of use on one battery.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Which ones have a triangle instead of a dot?

I read somewhere about using the triangle and sighting it in for the point of the triangle then at distance you use it for accurate holdover. True? Anbody have expelrience with doing that?

Some of them seem so expensive!
Seems some are as much as a nice gun.

Are they really worth it verses the cheaper ones?

Thanks

P.s. I appreciate the input I'm getting on this forum. Some forums seem to hate new people. Again thank you.

Any mounting issues on the core?
Can you cowitness with the stock sights through it?

I have used cheaper one but had problems with them holding their settings. I got tired of resighting in all the time. I have a Deltapoint orginal on my CORE 40 and love it.

I have an Eotech MRDS on mine - does not cowitness. You can still use the top of the iron sights for a "field expedient" sight picture I guess. The red dot is great though! Fast and easy to acquire - it's been on there about a year now and still running strong. One of the benefits to the Eotech version, over many others that use batteries, is you can replace the battery without having to removing the optic, so there's no worry about needing to sight it back in.

No issues at all. S&W supplied five mounting plates with the pistol, and one was specifically for the JPoint.

Cowitnessing is a breeze. It's really improved my accuracy in a very short period of time.

I vote for Burris Fastfire II it provides a great co-witness and it has held up. Smith & Wesson M&P
great review on the CORE and red dots, Burris and Leupold.
