I have a 617 10 Shooter which I Mounted a Vortex Venom Reflex Sight on. I have never used a Red Dot sight before and finally made it to the Range today. I set up at 25yds and after some fine tuning I couldn't miss the 10 ring if I tried. I just made my 617 a lot more fun to shoot.

Nice.
Which mount did you use?
Any problems attaching the Venom to the mount?

Mount is by Raptor Engineering,
S&W Reflex Sight Mounts

You Just Remove the Rear Sight and Install the Mount in the 3 Tapped Holes in the Revolver's top strap. You don't use the Picatinny adaptor supplied with the Venom. Rock solid Installation.

Awesome. I like to use Eley ammo when I’m doing target shooting. It’s a lot more accurate.

I have used a red dot on my Ruger Mark II for a long time, Ultradot Match Dot. I even put it on my Taurus 922 22 LR/WMR. When I outfitted my hunting pistols I also put red dot sights on them.

I have a Ultradot L/T 2nd gen red dot sight I've been putting off installing on my 6" 617 that I use in competition. But now after reading this and on other forums I went ahead & popped for the weigand mini mount for my revolver. If it works out well I might even order another one for my 686 that i use for bowling pins.

I've a 617 dash nuttin 6" bbl, had a Burris scope as long as the bbl mounted to it for competition shooting. Replaced the burris with a Bushnell hologram. I used to lift weights and hold a 6 lb dumbell outstretched at a shooting stance just to be able to get used to the weight of the 617 setup! With the original combat grips shooting this unit it was a challenge competing against the other shooters with lighter autos!

Especially on the 617 6", with the weight the little Burris is practically no added weight.

Hello all. I recently purchased a 617-4 and I absolutely love shooting it. Richard, is that a Weigand mount? I'm thinking about getting a Venom red dot and using the Smith & Wesson Revolver WEIG-A-TINNY® Mini Mount, which I thought would be smaller if that's what you used.

talonius, that is an old thread and Richard may not answer you, but I can help. That mount in made by Raptor Engineering, but I think they may not be back in business yet after the fires in California. I really like that mount and have one on my 627. I do have an Allchin mount on my 617, very similar to the Raptor and they should be available.
