I'd like to see S&W release the 2.0 Compact with a milled slide and adapter plates to accept a red dot optic such as the Trijicon RMR. Glock's Model 19 MOS as well as SIG's P320 RX Compact and P320 X Carry seem to be leading the way with these "smaller" red dot ready/equipped handguns.

I currently own a 1.0 full size that I had modified to accept the RMR and love it. I'd like to have the same capabilities in a compact frame come straight from the factory.

Good topic for discussion. I'm surprised there have been no responses. In keeping with the subject matter, I too would like to see this. A lot of people say that the red dots on pistols are a fad. I disagree and think they are here to stay and even expand. I know they are not for everybody; but, they really are an amazing compliment to a carry piece. Additionally, they add negligible to zero difficulty to hiding/concealing a pistol.

Its been nearly two years since this thread was posted and I am still hoping for an optics ready double stack M&P. I find my 2.0 compact too heavy to carry unless I wear a stiff and uncomfortable belt so in my case this would be a home defense and range gun. If Smith made a 2.0 compact, full size or 5 inch gun with either a cut for a red dot or one installed I would buy it.

Reddot sights on pistols are ever so slowly becoming more popular. They are not taking the shooting world by storm but there is enough demand I find it odd the only optics ready gun S&W currently makes is the 4 inch version of the Shield. Maybe the optic ready M&P 1.0 they used to make sold so slowly they decided there was not enough demand. But if we are lucky maybe they quit making the 1.0 version because the 2.0 version is on the way.
