I just bought a new Smith AR-15 22. I had to get one after shooting my buddy's gun. It's the first gun I have owned. I'd like to get an eotech sight like by buddy has, but I don't want to pay that much. Any recommendations for a guy on a budget?

If you like the look of an AimPoint you can get a Bushnell TRS-25 for under $90 - they now also have a $20 rebate. Add a UTG .83 Medium Riser at $10 and you can CoWitness your sights.

Wow. Quick response. I just checked that link for primary arms and they only have one in model in stock. Do I need a magnifier? I'm confused by the mount options. Thanks.

Seriously? Another "which red dot" thread?
Use the search feature on this forum.... there are tons of red dot threads that will help you.

Congrats on you first gun:)
BTW if you keep your eye on Amazon, Eotech 512s can be had for just under 400 shipped, I have one on one of my LMTs and love it but, just can't justify it on the 15-22 Yet;)

Sorry Tysjyx, I just joined. How do you search?

Well, you've got the low tech method of just reading the threads that show up on the 1st page of this forum. Haven't counted but I bet on just this one page, there will be 4-5 threads dealing with sights. Then of course you can really splurge, and click the buttons for the other pages of threads. After 125 years of reading 999,999 threads about sights & optics... you will be an expert.

Then the high tech method is to click the search button up at the top. I normally prefer to click on advanced search, use just one or two keywords in the search box, such as "optic", "sight" or "red dot", tell it to search titles only & then select just the 15-22 forum to search.

And I use the TRS-25 on my 15-22 & love it. Great review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGLOd1jHz8E

Primary arms have the best budget red dots available in my opinion. I own 2 of them and could not be happier. They are hard to come by though. They usually are out of stock shortly after they are available. You can set it up for them to email you when they are available, or possibly find one in the EE.

I ordered the Bushnell Trophy ''First Strike'' a few days ago from Primary Arms for my 15-22. [ you also need a 1/2 riser as advised by PA's for co-witness ] I have an Eotech 552 on the AR so it keeps it compatible. With the 20% rebate the final cost will be $120,, lots less than an Eotech and plenty good enough for a plinker.

NcStar makes a dot with a built in laser and 42mm objective, $65 on amazon.
