Well I shoot Bullseye . A red dot sight allows an older person who has problems keeping focus on the front sight to still be competitive . There's 2 ways to mount one on top the slide or a frame mount . Slide mount adds weight to slide & does affect slide momentum . Frame mount has no contact with slide & generally you can keep stock springs . The 2 main sights we use are the Ultra Dot & the Aimpoint . All mine are slide mount & I shoot only mid range target loads . I've had to go with lower rated recoil springs to allow full function . I.E. my 1911 has a 10lb , stock open sight gun uses a 16lb , my 52-2 has a 7lb , stock open sight is 8lb & my 41 has a 6.5lb , factory is 8lb . As far as wear I see no difference . In my discipline we have no power factor to meet . We're only concerned with function & group size , especially @ 50yds . I've attached pics of my guns for you .
