"RED DOT" Sight

Hello fellow M&P 'SHIELDers;

I qualified for the shooting portion for my CCW, just waiting for the fingerprint results to come in. Even though I qualified my shots were all over the place, or at least not as close as "I" preferred them to be (used my M&P Shield 9mm & S&W 638CT 5-shot Revolver with 'shrouded hammer). I would like to tighten up my shots and even though I know practice makes 'better, I would like the assistance of a "Red Dot" type sight to get me used to sighting my targets better, and simply just for target shooting fun. Can anyone recommend the 'best/'better brand to purchase. I heard the Trijicon has one that does not use a battery which could cause issues if it dies and you need it. I am not beyond using one 'with a battery, but I mainly want the best 'options for my M&P Shield 9mm (by the way, I would like one that will fit 'perfectly without having to be 'machined on permanently, basically I don't want any holes 'drilled into my "baby").

No mechanical or electronic device will tighten your groups. Things like better sights and triggers will help you to be more consistent, but the ultimate accuracy will depend on you.

Also, unless you're gonna carry your gun with this on it, which would defeat the concealability of the Shield, any gains you get will be lost when you take it off.

The Trijicon RMR is indeed the pinnacle of quality pistol red dot.

It needs no batteries. It's powered by the ambient light in bright conditions and by Tritium in low light. They are incredibly tough and come with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. One of these will set you back about $500.

Oh yeah, you'll also have to figure out how to mount it on the Shield.

In my opinion, Trijicon RMR is the highest quality red dot sight. I've used the RMR without batteries and I found the dot to be too dim. I've never seen one on a shield, however. I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work. The problem with not having the slide milled is the sight will sit too high on the firearm. If the sight is too high, you won't be able to co-witness the iron sights. The red dot is difficult and time consuming to locate if you can't line up the iron sights while shooting. Co-witnessing is also handy if the red dot fails; you can still use the iron sights. I can understand not wanting to permanently alter you precious.

I had the slide of my 9c milled to accept my RMR. The guy who did the work also made me a plate to fill the space in the event I remove the RMR. I think it's the way to go.

Oh, and I conceal my 9c in an Incog every single day with zero problems whatsoever.

Not saying that it cannot be done (Red Dot sight on a Shield) but, it will not be easy and most probably will require milling and or drilling. Perhaps a better choice for you may be a Laser Sight.

I would look into a Crimson Trace grip. I have one on my 40C and really like the whole setup.
