Going to mount a Holosun 407 on a new 365-380, and wondering what color dot fellow elders like best?

Some of mine are red, others have a dual option. If I have the option I go green. If I didn't have an option, red is no problem.

I have a 365XL that came with a red dot.

Swapped out for a Holosun with a green dot and think it is much easier to pick up.

Found the same with green vs red fiber optic sights.

I would look at both at the dealer though to determine which is best for you.

Not all old eyes are the same.

Your eye is somewhat more sensitive to green than red. So is your night vision. I have some of both, in reflex and laser versions. IMO, it's a wash with regard to utility.

I have a combo red/green on one of my AR’s for years, started with the red, but use the green exclusively now. It’s so much better in bright light as mentioned here before.

Just bought a Holosun green dot to put on another AR.
Green just works better for me in all aspects, and going forward I will seek out green dot sights.

I use red, but everyone's eyes are different, so it comes down to what works best for you.

If I can get green in my chosen sight, I go with that. I read a study a number of years ago that found that generally speaking, the human eye can pick up green better than red. Of course, everyone is an individual. But for me, I definitely pick up green better than red.

I never felt the need to use any laser or optical sights on an up close and personal SD handgun. At 5 yards or less, I don't really see the need. I do see the liability (breakage, dead battery, knocked out of alignment, special holsters, more bulk and weight on the handgun, etc) as a hinderance and not an asset. OK - I know many on this thread about a red dot sight will think I am off base here and that's expected - but please think about what I have said here...... Is the red dot sight truly needed for an up close and personal SD handgun? YMMV

I went with a green Holosun in my Sport 2 and found that color was easier for my eyes to pick up and focus on. I can use red, just prefer green. So if I were to add an optic to one of my handguns it too would be green.

LGS up here sell a great number of these sights. According to Them the only drawback to green is that for some reason it eats batteries. Any one have a comment on this???

Generally, the dot sights can all have a long battery life. The green lasers, that are easier to see and pick up in daylight than red lasers, are what eats batteries the worst.

For those over 40 green works best. I found a huge difference in looking at lighted aircraft instruments that use red lights vs. those newer ones that use a slightly tinted (green) white lights. Old eyes don't do well with red.
