Hello everyone,

I am interested if you have any pictures of revolvers with the factory red post front sights. I have seen these on a few 6 inch revolvers. Was this a special order item? I have a model 14-3 that I am sending back to S&W for a TH and TT and would also like to get something to replace the black front sight to make it easer to see. Any pictures would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!:)

Is the red post your asking about like this one?

I've got this and a Mod 17 with the square orange "block" (for lack of a better word) on the front sight.
I don't know if it's a factory addition but I've seen several revolvers with this kind of front sight.

Thanks for posting those pictures. That does look like the front "post" I remember seeing. Does anyone know whether those are factory or not? I think the factory used to also install a gold bead on request on 60's and 70's revolvers but have seen very few.

S&W sure did offer factory the Red Post, Red Ramps, and Gold Bead and Mc Givern Gold Bead front sights like those shown.
They were an option.

"King" also offered these as after market but had their name on the base.

Many years ago, I sent my pre 27 back and had a white "block" installed that looks like the red one shown. I have no idea if they will still do that.

Burtsy, you may want to add some bright green, yellow or red paint to the top of your front sight. It is not permanent, it's cheap, and it works! I've done it to my Model 67, and other non-Smith guns. Bob
