Can the red insert in a RR sight be replaced? The one on my M66 is loose and kind of battered. The sight blade appears to be milled onto the barrel and not the pinned type (if there's a pin there, I can't see any sign of it). Thanks.

mix two part epoxy, add just enough orange paint to give it color, and waxed popsicle sticks as a form. cheap and easy.

I hate those red-ramps on a stainless gun. For accurate target shooting, I much prefer a ridged black patridge front sight. Brownells sells them for the S&W.
I took the new sight to my gunsmith, and he milled off the old one, cut the slot for the new one, and it looks like a factory job now. plus, I can drive the pin out and put in anythig I want now.

I too dislike the red ramps. I bought a patridge front sight for my M66 from MidwayUSA and love it.

When casting a front sight insert I make the "forms" from two triangle shaped pieces of business card with double stick tape. Make the triangles a little taller than the angled face of the sight to allow a little overfill of the insert material as you get a little shrinkage when the material hardens. When the insert has hardened you just peel the forms off and dress the top surface flush, a neat job quickly done. If you don't like a colored insert, simply remove the colored one and cast a black insert in its place.
